Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach Would Fight Cotto Catch-Weight Stance

Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin, will be a very interested observer in the upcoming mega-fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico and Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Cotto-Canelo will take place in November, either on the 7th or the 21st, with HBO Pay-Per-View carrying the event. The fight will take place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds.

In several recent interviews, Cotto made it clear that he would demand a catch-weight in his upcoming middleweight fights - at least for the foreseeable future.

all you guys want is the money, if Cotto asks for 152.5 for the 160 middleweight belt, you bet your ass you'll go there.

Cotto fight will never happen..Cotto will demand a catch and crazy split...

              Canelo fight more likely...

I think if Triple G can't get the winner he should move up and fight Ward at 68'...he's too old to wait around and fight another C-level fighter...

Despite what some others have declared, I can't see how you are wrong here; if nothing else, GGG's team could take Cotto to court over the 160 pound weight for the middleweight title (as much as I would not want to see that).

If Cotto is forced to vacate, because GGG flexes his muscles, GGG will still be looking for a mega-fight. If Canelo wins, GGG will still be in the same situation, looking for a mega-fight, because Canelo will also demand 155. GGG could possibly unify the middleweight division, and still be a mediocre celebrity in the game. Without Mayweather, Pacquiao, Canelo, Cotto, Ward, and Froch, GGG is basically on the same level as Timothy Bradley!

Canelo will beat Cotto, then Canelo will vacate the belt, he wont face GGG next.
