Then what's the point of weight classes. I'm getting so tired of catchweights. Fight at 168 or fight at 160. I understand GGG is a small middleweight and Ward is a big Super Middleweight, but which of these guys wants to challenge himself, to dare to be great. In this case, I think GGG should go up. Getting down in weight is much more taxing on the body. No way Ward can be Ward at 164, but GGG will definitely be GGG at 164.

He would've taken it in a heartbeat, whether comfortable at that weight or not.

If there isn't enough money on the table for a GGG fight, then what is he waiting around for? GGG is not even a technically great win on his resume as my debating opponent already confirmed. GGG is smaller, isn't the Middleweight champion, isn't considered a great fighter yet, isn't even considered a Great Middleweight yet etc,. He would just be beating a hot name from a lower weight class. At least when Garcia defeated Matthysse, he actually achieved something from a technical standpoint (not just knocking off a hyped up fighter) in that he defeated a Top Light-welterweight in his division. Ward wouldn't even achieve that with a win over GGG.

And from a Fan's perspective, you would only get the satisfaction of seeing GGG lose (or hoping that he does), since you can't make a credible argument for why GGG should fight Ward.

Marketing departments often say dumb things as Golovkin's did re the 154-168 thing.
Ward also claimed he'd fight light heavy after the super six and could beat Klitschko but he never seems to be held accountable for that.

I personally think catchweights are ******. Over 30 and going down is ****** and generally doesn't work.

golovkin is not a small middleweight! he has been a middleweight for well over a decade now. he has a terrific chin and great power. he's 5'10-5'11, and his arms are actually pretty long.


cotto is a small middleweight. he's actually a JMW, and was best at 147 lbs.


golovkin and ward are much closer in size than golovkin and cotto.

Cotto is a midget too! Ward's got a good three inches on Golovkin and has fought at a higher weight class his whole career.

I can see Golovkin unifying then testing the waters at a higher weight, just like Ward just did.
