" A source with knowledge of the situation has advised BoxingScene.com that a potential fight between Andre Ward and Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin is being held up by the weight.
From what BoxingScene was told, Golovkin's side is insisting on a catch-weight of 164-pounds.
There have been conversations between Roc Nation Sports (who have Ward) and K2 Promotions (who have Golovkin), but those discussions have gone absolutely nowhere because the two sides are unable to get past the issue of weight.......... "

There were initial discussions between Roc Nation and K2, but the discussions did not evolve into a negotiation because K2 refused to move on the weight.
Team Golovkin want nothing to do with Andre Ward.

"On Friday, July 3, an interview was posted on the London, U.K. based website, City A.M. (www.cityam.com) with quotes attributed to boxing superstar Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.
Golovkin did not conduct this “interview” containing fabricated quotes from him. The quotes were also been picked up by numerous other media outlets.
“These are not my words in this interview, “ said Golovkin.
“It’s unfortunate that this interview was posted online and considered by many to be Gennady’s quotes, none of which are his statements,” said Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions."

It only makes sense to fight GGG first because, as a boxer, you don't want to work your way up a division and then cut back down for some chickenshyt who is going back on his word and might ask for a catchweight below your previous division. Making excuses for Genady is a losing argument because his decisionsas of late are nothing more than taking the easiest fights with the biggest paydays. Now that he's back and has gotten a tune-up out of the way, Ward is clearly aiming to move forward by fighting the best guys in an order that makes sense.
