Hopkins has faced several Berto level opponents over the course of his career. Boxrec any fighter you consider an ATG. All had soft touches in between the big fights they're remembered for. Dude just fought the biggest fight in the history of boxing. Is he not allowed to scale it back a bit?

The Hopkins comparison is definitely legitimate because he is the epitome of having nothing left to prove. Hopkins just said he wants to end his career with a meaningful fight. No it doesn't. Hopkins has been very selective about who he's fought and when since the Jermain Taylor loses. Kovalev was nothing but the latest Tarver, Pavlik, Pascal, etc. Saw a guy he thought was vunurable, and had holes he could exploit. Kovalev is just a lil better than he thought. And age finally caught up with him. Kovalev is just the last Chad Dawson is B-Hop's post 40 career.

Nothing to excuse. He's taking a soft touch on free TV. Very similar to how GGG fights guys even hardcore fans have to look up on boxrec off TV from time-2-time. Not like he's asking PPV dollar$ for Algeri and Rios level opponents.
