What I think has happened is that Mikey told them he wanted to leave at the end of his contract, so Top Rank stopped offering him fights. Now you can decide who is right and who is wrong from this? From a legal standpoint..Top Rank stil "owns" Garcia until he completes his fights and if he's not getting any fights or Top Rank arent offering any then there's nothing Mikey can do except pay up to leave. From an ethical point, Top Rank are screwing with Mikey on purpose here. They know he wants to go and are delaying it as much as possible, maybe until his best years are over.

he probably could have gotten a big pac payday if he just waited.

      now crawford will get it.

arum was setting him up to be his next chicano star.

        of course arum will.

it's not like he'll buy himself out for millions.

        not even worth it.

Top rank wants to make money

I'd believe a lot of sneaky stuff about how they conduct business but simply forbidding to let you fight without just cause isn't one of them

They didn't hire him to stand around snacking from the office fridge

But if they have a fighter in Mikey who they have invested time and money in, wants to leave at the end of his contract, what would you as top rank do?

Try and talk him out of It?

If he stil says no then top rank probably decided to screw around with his career.

              Garcia is an idiot
Everything that Arum offered was contingent on Garcia agreeing to fight under the Top Rank banner for the rest of his career. The price was too high to pay.

Eh, it's over for the guy. He'll get his "freedom" and then get ktfo by a nobody. Just finish your contract, continue to win and then leave. TR and other promotional companies put in millions of dollars during the build up phase before they make any money. They deserve to make a ROI. The PBC model is going to be interesting. All their top guys, even Floyd were developed by another company, so I'm curious about their prospect model on the future

                    he got paid good.

his dumbass should have finished his TR deal then jumped ship.

but no he tried to break his contract. too stupid.
And get stuck in quasi-Chavez Jr perpetual hell ( "we'll get you the Martinez if you give us two more fights before walking ... we'll give you the Golovkin fight, if you give us another option fight after that")? gtfoh.

The PBC model is different, in the sense that their fighters get minimal signing bonuses, get kept seemingly as busy as their camps are willing to push them on cards around the country, and only have to pay out anything to Haymon once they've started being a bankable commodity (according to the leaked contract example, Haymon has set that value at $150k purses and beyond).

It's a riskier gambit by the fighters with Haymon, but if they measure up, they're positioned to put a ton more money in their own pockets than a fighter who took the security of a promoter's advance.

Longterm, personally, I think the PBC model is better for developing prospects too; basically, PBC prospects are supposed to constantly keep fit and get their opponents on 4-6 week, or less (with basically styles that could be anything, as Haymon can and does bring in any and every fighter not tied down to HBO or HBO-affiliated companies). You give a fighter 15-20 fights of that and just imagine how polished they'd come out when given a full 10-12 week camp or longer to prep for an opponent.

You may end up with some 19-1 to 17-3 prospects, but they'd likely all be better fighters for it.
