In all my life of watching boxing, I have felt there were two fighters who were true servants to the sport. They gave everything, every ounce of sweat, every ounce of blood, they fought the best their respective divisions had to offer: Sergio Martinez and Carl Froch. There was little to moan about with their careers, hardly were they known as divas, they gave to the sport and the brought in new fans.

It's sad that Martinez could not leave the sport on his own terms, maybe it was the dying light of a glittering career, the promise (or curse) of the biggest payday in a long and hard journey. Froch, by chance, never got that Vegas date, Chavez Jr was just not good enough. The big Vegas money receded and Froch found himself, he knew what he had done, he knew, as he said in his retirement interview, "it was enough"....it really was Carl Froch. It was enough.

Froch retires with Dignity and the Respect of a champ.

While Froch was no Joe Calzaghe, Carl represented himself and all of the UK very well and with class and dignity. Froch did well in his career and gave his all and fought the top names and represented himself and the UK and all of boxing like a gentlemen. Froch went out on his own terms with his name intact and respect around the boxing world. Retiring with dignity is a great option for a fighter. Froch was a winner. Retiring with a beautiful wife and nice kids and a loving family for support and an adoring fan base and having the respect of all England? What a way to go out on Top?

The difference is he actually fought tough competition at 168, unlike the can-fest 160 is.

You could see this decision was coming, and i'm glad he has gone out on his own terms.

I've loved watching him fight over the years, he's had an excellent career and has faced all the big names in his division through-out.
Not many can match the run of tough opposition he has faced since becoming World Champion. Boxing is a better place with fighters like Froch around.
