No agreement has been signed and no money has been paid. Absolutely nothing has changed since the day they started talking about this fight.

Golovkin absolutely has to agree to this. If he is not satisfied with the proposed deal, he is under no obligation at all to accept it.

Unfortunately in boxing you can't believe something like this until you actually see it, but man if this is true it's awesome for us fans. Cotto/Canelo is a true superfight that will have lots of action and I'm glad it's happening first, as long as the winner actually does face GGG after. I think if GGG faced one of them first he would beat them and then we might not get a Cotto/Canelo fight.

GGG is gonna beat whoever wins. But it's gonna be a great fight to decide who actually gets a shot at the true middleweight king in his first big money fight.

We might get a rare moment of clarity in the sport of boxing, the middleweight division needed some great news and we finally have some. It’s been reported by Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times that the world boxing council has an agreement in place for the winner of Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KO’s) and Canelo Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KO’s) to fight Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s). so now we can figure out who is the undisputed king of the middleweight division.

This is great news, however nothing is all the way finalized in regards to the Cotto/Canelo fight. In a recent article from Boxing Scene Cotto’s team confirmed that negotiations for the fight are 90% done. So once that fight gets squared away we can begin analyzing a Cotto/Golovkin or Canelo/Golovkin matchups.

It’s some great news for the middleweight division, should the WBC hold true to their agreement then we are looking at 2 mega fights within the next 6-10 months after the Cotto/Canelo fight takes place. Gennady Golovkin and his rapidly growing fan base has longed for a “Big Drama Show” which is necessary at this point in his career. He hasn’t fought an A-level fighter in his career due in large part to his opponents fear of getting in the ring with him. Outside of maybe Keith Thurman, there’s not a fighter in the sport of boxing who deserves a mega fight as much as Golovkin. Fans and boxing aficionados want to know just how great Golovkin is and we might find out sooner than later.

Wait a minute! What happened to the step-aside fee that the WBC demanded that Cotto pay if he wasn't going to fight Golovkin after fighting Geale? Now, they claim they have an agreement?

This is bulls...t! The only thing the WBC has is a promise from both camps that the winner will consider fighting GGG in their next fight. The winner of Cotto/Alvarez fight will fight a rematch against Floyd Mayweather in his next fight, likely at a 155-pound catchweight for the middleweight title. The only thing the WBC will say about it "how much is our sanctioning fee."

WBC have made no announcement regarding the fight at all. They have not stated that an agreement has been reached. Whoever wrote that article is just looking for free web hits on a quiet day.

I dont think they can have a contract prohibiting a fighter from vacating. Then again anything in boxing goes. Lol

Not from vacating but from refusing to fight yes. Can't make cotto/Canelo fight but u can make them pay dearly in $$$$$$ for failure to fight. Us attorneys call that liquidated damages for breach of contract. Whether the wbc was wise enough to include such a term remains to be seen.
