I also truly doubt Larry was digging for this... Pep, historically was known for winning a round of boxing without throwing a punch. Which brings up the concept of fundamentals, judging and today's lack of knowledge. One of the main focus points in boxing is "Hit but don't get Hit"... Something Pep was amazing at, exactly why he was considered to be so great and yet rarely spoken of. This has to do with today's lack of knowledge of the history of the sport and the lack of knowing the sport. Every sport has idiotic critics with no knowledge of the sport (never competeing, never studying the history) and the Internet has allowed every individual the voice to spew hate or criticism... Ironically it also gave those individuals the access to the history, and videos which you may have never of saw.
Same thing can be said for my main man Nicolino Locche.

What does it matter honestly? Trying to show the double standards isn't changing anyone's opinion anyways. Some have there mind made up and that's never going to change whether its wrong or not.

It makes me laugh when idiots say you don't know boxing if you are critical of fighters who are boring like Mayweather and especially Rigondeaux. Well, let me get it out of the way that I've had almost 80 amateur fights and therefore probably know more about boxing than 99.9% of you. Mayweather hasn't always been boring, but he is now. He never goes for the knockout, never throws combinations and - worst of all - he has now become a prolific clincher. Rigondeaux's only redeeming quality is that he doesn't clinch a lot, but other than that he's the most boring fighter ever - he could knock every fighter out but leaves so much to be desired compared to the way he often fought as an amateur. Movement and boxing are fine as long as you focus on offense more than someone like Rigo, but constant clinching is not excusable and is in fact cheating. Holding should be penalised much more. I understand why fighters do it - in fact I do it myself as I'm an intelligent boxer. However, there is less of an onus of responsibility on me to entertain as I'm not paid for what I do.

Willie Pep was a bum man, if he fought today he would only be worthy of washing Mayweathers bugattis. TBE mayweather would have made easy work of pep man. Mayweather invented defensive boxing, pep was nothing but a pale imitation. Pep had a time machine and saw mayweather fight gatti in 2005 and learned how to fight defensively. TBE mayweater.

Where are all these Floyd fights with "prolific clinching"? The thread also isn't about whether or not a fighter is boring. "Running coward" is the topic at hand.

Well, running coward to me is much more acceptable than clinching coward, though it can be boring. Floyd clinched a lot vs Manny, which being as it was the biggest fight of his career, is enough for me. Don't get me wrong, Floyd was an exciting fighter for a good part of his career to me but in recent years he really has bored me. That said, he's no Wlad, Ward or Rigo.

An average of just over a clinch a round is a lot? Are you for real? There's one fight he clinched excessively in, and should probably have been deducted a point, and that was Maidana 2.
