The thing is that you can't make the best matchups and protect the fighters at the same time, and Haymon has attracted a lot of fighters who want big paydays but easy fights. It makes sense for the fighters but it's bad for the PBC brand, and it might prove unsustainable, but who knows.
You can substitute HBO for PBC and Bob Arum for Haymon in this post and say the exact same thing. Prior to this year, HBO would only offer about eight shows a year that were not on PPV and six of those shows would feature crappy mismatches like Golovkin/Munroe Jr. that boxing fans would only watch because we get to see so few matches on television This year, HBO has already feature about 20 shows and 15 of them were either mismatches or fights between B-level opponents that were not popular among fans.

Since March, PBC has given us about 20 matches. Five of them were quality matches between high quality opponents. The other 15 fell in the same category as the HBO shows I described in the last sentence of the last paragraph.

The only thing that is truly wrong with PBC broadcasts is the poor announcing teams. Quality announces can turn a crappy fight into something that at least hardcore fan can get some minute enjoyment from. HBO has become experts in accomplishing this task.

what your missing is that when HBO does a mismatch fight it's usually at least entertaining, which is why there ratings are still good.

Haymon will give us countless mismatches that are boring featuring fighters a lot of us don't care about.

At no time in my life do I ever need to see Elislandry Lara in a mismatch. Ots a waste of everyones time and $.

The matchmaking hasn't even been terrible. People that say it sucks will go on about how great hbo has been...

there's nothing wrong with PBC that hasn't already been fixed

-The "everyone comes out to Oscar movie scoring music" was deaded as soon as possible, in favor of fighters choosing music more relatable to them

-The fighters, after walking down the main part of the stage on their own (which is a good move, in my opinion), walk the rest of the way to the ring with their trainer/cutman/fourth person in the corner.

Outside of streaming the non-TV bouts on their website, I've got no real complaints with anything else.

Where will the money come from then? I don't see cbs/nbc/abc/fox picking up that tab. One thing is a time buy, completely different when paying for PBC.
If PBC ends up proving that airing PBC on [NBC/CBS/ABC] in primetime on Saturday will guarantee said network a win in the 18-54 demographic that advertisers care about, and more companies get the confidence to have their commercials on the PBC telecast, the money's going to be there. (in the end of this trial period, I personally think that the main massive content deal will come from CBS/Showtime, with PBC also picking up the monthly primetime dates on Sp1keTV and ESPN; PBC will keep the FS1 deal, and likely a deal with NBCSN, to showcase their feeder fights.

Keith Thurman picked up that massive hematoma in March, remember?

By the time the May Mayweather fight happened, Thurman was still sporting the raccoon eyes, from the excess blood still leaving the area by the injury; Thurman getting back in July is about as soon as he could've been expected to get back to begin with.

I can't believe guys are sctually complaining about PBC matchmaking smh. We are only halfway through the year and we've already gotten some really solid matchups such as Garcia/Peterson, Broner/Porter, Thurman, Guerrero etc...you guys just love to hate because its Al Hamon, HBO can give you GGG vs some bum or Bradley vs fckin jesse vergas and you guys wont say anthing lol, the bias is so strong.

The only way to fix it is to tear it down and start over. Have a traditional boxing broadcast and boxing card with ring girls, proper ring entrances, fighters allowed to bring their entourage in the ring, an IN RING announcer, quality commentators, no forced 'I want to thank Al Haymon' from EVERY DAMN FIGHTER AFTER THE FIGHT. Decent match ups with fights being in the proper city for the fight.
HBO's presentation of boxing isn't the only way that the sport has been or should be presented.

                  To assume that is foolish.

Degale-Dirrell and Broner-Porter were both great matchups on paper; heck, a lot of the co-features on these telecast have been good matchups on paper (Lee-Quillin, Kameda-McDonnell, Vasquez-Omotoso). Beyond that, there have been fights that didn't really seem like much on paper that actually turned into really good fights (Arreola-Harper is arguably fight of the year at this point)

You look at what's already been scheduled for the rest of the summer so far and Harrison-Nelson, Flores-Shumenov, Jacobs-Mora, Tarver-Cunningham, etc are all good matchups.

PBC needs to pick the right cities and venues.. That ghost Guerrero card in front of any empty stadium does not make boxing look good..
