They "ducked" the purse bid because Kovalev has an exclusive deal with HBO. It has nothing whatsoever to do with them being afraid of a match with Stevenson. Trust me, Haymon and his team knew all about this going in. They knew Duva and co. wouldn't be able to participate in the purse bid, so it was nothing but a PR stunt to them. They're the ones who really don't want the fight. If Duva and Kovalev didn't want it, why were they trying to take Stevenson and Yvon Michel to court over their supposed agreement to fight last year? My problem with Kovalev is that he was calling for the fight before he signed, so he could've had the fight and then signed. It's like Pacquiao signing when he knew that his re-signing with Arum would be a major roadblock (especially when he had signed with GBP in the past). I think these TV contracts are more of a roadblock than their promoter contracts!

Although i agree with you that the Haymon/HBO feud is the reason this fight isn't happening we have to remember the rapist had the chance to face Kovalev and he decided to move to AL Haymon's protective services to avoid Kovalev and continue fighting bums.

Also there is a difference between Kovalev fighting Ward,who outgrew 168 and has p4p skills, and fighting Sakio Bika.

That is not accurate. It was Yvon Michel's request that was approved by the WBC, causing Duva to withdraw.

Duva asked for Kovalev to be made Stevenson's mandatory, but she did not press for a purse bid.
