no, ward-golovkin would not be a pay-per-view right now. so how are hbo going to justify paying a ppv level purse for a fight that likely does <2m viewers on normal hbo? it's not that i don't want the fight to happen, it's just that i can see that it is not viable until golovkin and/or ward increase their profile. golovkin claims to have approached hbo about the fight in the past and they said it was one for the future

Because unlike a Ward fight, both of those fights would be PPV. And Golovkin has made it VERY CLEAR that the only reason he moves up is for a PPV fight.

So you think that Ward will accept under a million for the fight? Ward who was demanding $2 million for his tune up fights? Is GGG supposed to pay Ward out of his own bank account and fight for free? HBO refused what Ward was asking. So did Showtime. Everyone refused Ward which is why he had to fight on BET with a time buy.

A PPV would not do enough sales to pay Ward his side of the purse.

So how about all of you geniuses who think such a fight is easy to make tell the rest of us exactly how it can be done. And 'get GGG to tell HBO to do the fight' does not qualify. Neither does 'tell HBO to make it a PPV'. Tell us all how you would approach HBO to convince them that everyone could make money on this fight. How they can convince Ward to accept B side money. How to successfully market the PPV. Everything. Go ahead. We are all very anxious to know.

You have no idea why showtime or HBO refused the fight. As I asked T18Z, did you see Ward request this or are you speculating on what purse he will want?

The fight isn't PPV worthy. HBO is a multi million dollar corporation. If they wanted to make Ward/GGG, they could find the money for it.

They could market the fight with a 24/7 as they would any PPV, just put it on regular HBO. They could have it on a free preview weekend, coupled with a big premiere movie, with the hopes it attracts more subscribers.

Asking us to design the marketing and promotion is just a smokescreen. Since when do we as fans have to know all this before a fight can be made.

GGG needs to prove his p4p ranking is deserved. Fighting and defeating Ward does this.

GGG said he would fight anyone from 154-168, He isn't being picked on.

GGG is the a-side so it doesn't matter what Ward sells.

If HBO execs thought this was the case, this fight would've been made ages ago. Instead, we get Lampley downplaying the fight on shows and on the fight game.

Look man, no matter how you feel about GGG, Ward proved himself against great comp, GGG has not. I can respect any GGG fan thinking he would win.

He's got to prove himself to real fans, not just those that crave "excitement". He is the equivalent of Vince Carter-exciting but not around when it counts.
