People always bring up Wlad being wobbled by a jab. Guess what? It's true. But that doesn't say anything about him as a fighter. Did any of you see the size of the guy who wobbled him with a jab was? These are super heavyweights. Punches have more effect in this weight class than any other. I've made guys I've sparred with do the stanky leg because of a jab. A jab can be a power punch. Doesn't happen often but when someone over 240 lbs throws it and it lands clean, it's damaging. Rios wobbled Alvarado with a jab in their second fight...which Alvarado won. The logic used (or lack of) on this site when talking about fighters is amazing to witness.

      Here's the video :

He knocked him down cleanly just once, with the left hook in the second. The three 'knockdowns' in the seventh came respectively from a throw, a push and a throw/elbow. The last one was blatantly not clean yet was counted anyway by a ref who should have had his licence revoked for either corruption or incompetence.

Wlad could have won that fight cleanly and got all the accolades, but the fact that he fouled so egregiously soured what little good work he did do.

Povetkin looked unprepared in that fight.

He looks much more aggressive and hungry to win now.

doesnt matter what he was doing . He was bullying him around the ring and povetkin couldnt do anything. Who cares if he was clinching, povetkin couldnt find the answer and was getting manhandled

When Fury gets into that ring it will be the first time he's ever been in a ring with him. Wilder has more experience boxing Wlad than Jennings, Povetkin, and Fury put together.
And what did all that experience do for him versus the incredibly inept Molina? Jennings and Povetkin have the small thing of actually having got in the ring with Wlad for real and are both just vastly more experienced than Wilder in general, due to not taking on pattycakes every other fight.

Wilder can content himself with having gone fifty hard rounds of sparring with Wlad and count that as a victory if he likes. Meanwhile he's getting rocked by Molina and giving Povetkin a three mile wide berth.

I'm not going to give Wlad any more stick for getting rocked by Pulev's jab than I will Fury getting knocked down while totally squared up against Cunningham. Both are used to unfairly denigrate both fighters. Fury's taken bigger punches than the one that Cunningham caught him with and been fine. When he's getting down to business and not clowning around he takes punches the same as anyone else. It's when he switches off or gets reckless that he leaves himself vulnerable to getting dropped. Big deal. His recovery abilities are excellent anyway, and both times he got dropped he went on to stop his opponents a few rounds afterwards.

So if he was kneeing Povetkin in the nuts and dropping elbows to the back of his head that would have been fine, would it? You're right. It didn't matter what he was doing since he was permitted to get away with anything. Benefits of having a compliant ref.
