i believe that loma will beat him regardless of his size, so i hope he can stick around at 126 lbs long enough for that fight to happen. even if it has to be at a catchweight one or two lbs north of featherweight i still want to see it
Nicholas Walters another fighter picking on small guys

It's not right but it's been in practice for some time now. Most of the top fighters of this generation are shrinking themselves down or rehydrate to ridiculous weights.
Donaire did it when he was campaigning at the lower weights.
Canelo rehydrates to 170 plus sometimes.
Lara rehydrates to 170 plus.
Loma rehydrates to 138 or so fight night.
Shawn Porter, Terrance Crawford, Maidana, Brook, Khan, Thurman all do it.
Hell, Roman Gonzalez has rehydrated to 127, that's 4 or 5 weight divisions above 112 on fight night...Comment

What you need to be complaining about is the current system of weighing in 32 hours before the fight. In the good old days of weighing in about 8 hours before the fight no boxer ever gained more than a few pounds from he weigh in to the fight. Walters isn't breaking any rules and trying to fight at too low of weight cost him his title. Walking around weight is meaningless because some boxers walk around fat and sometimes very fat while others like Mayweather walk around very close to their fighting weight. Hell, Hatton probably walked around at 200 pounds and Bradley gets very fat between fights. Those fight night weights are misleading and the fighters don't gain as much weight as they say. Fighters weigh in stripped down to their underpants. The fight night weight is determined by what the fighters weigh on their way to the ring. They forget to subtract the weight of the fighter's gear. Put a pair of boxing shoes, a pair of boxing gloves, a foul protector and boxing trunks on a scale and it will weigh 3 or 4 pounds and they never take that off when they tell you how much weight the fighter gained. Walters is certainly not a bigger man than Mayweather. Walters will probably move up to 130 and make weight legally and be a very good fighter at that weight. This is the first time Walters ever failed to make weight and it cost him his title plus 40 thousand dollars. He is not like Guzman who failed to make weight many times. Don't make a villain out of Walters for missing weight once.Comment

Boxing fans can never seem to get the story straight about whether a fighter is gaining an advantage by being heavy at the weight or is being disadvantaged due to being 'drained'.
Walters is a huge featherweight, i'd say he is pretty much an average sized lightweight, but at least while he was making weight then that is fine, discrediting fighters for being big and heavy at the weight is absurd.Comment

one of the four major world title organisations (the ibf) has a rule that you can't gain more than 10 lbs in between the usual weigh-in and a second weigh-in directly before the fight, so evidently it is regarded as a significant factor by some of the people in power. personally i think that rule should be enforced across the board, for the safety of both men in the ringBoxing fans can never seem to get the story straight about whether a fighter is gaining an advantage by being heavy at the weight or is being disadvantaged due to being 'drained'.

Excessive or not, I don't blame the fighter till it's legit and not forbidden. Now I only blame Walters because he couldn't do that one minus pound and he ******ly lost his belt but I don't care if he can rehydrate to 145 on fight night. It's not his fault.
If you really have problems with this then blame the system you can't wait from any boxers that they be like "I can rehydrate to 145 on fight night but hmmm... maybe that wouldn't be fair with my opponent and would be excessive. I know that I can rehydrate to 145 because it's legal ut I think I only rehydrate to 135 then.". lol, you can't wait...Comment

No way. As far height and reach, he's around the same size as a lot of top Welterweights. And weight-wise, he looks pretty solid.I do think Walters is a big featherweight but let us not exaggerate how big he is. Saying he should be fighting at 135 or 140 is crazy given that most current fighters of these divisions should be in higher weight classes as well. Look how big some recent lightweights like Crawford and Beltran were.
Walters would be a midget at lightweight, let alone at light welterweight. He should move up to 130.
Also I don't know what happened this time. He misses weight and rehydrates up to 145 pounds on fight night (??). Against Donaire, he didn't seem to struggle at the weigh-in and he was "only" 137 pounds the day of the fight if I remember correctly. He must have put on too much weight in between both fights.
He could easily fight at 135.
If a big guy can continue to make weight in a small weight class, I have no problem with it. But after missing weight, it's pretty clear that Walters's time to move up is now, or at least in the very near future.Comment

Except he didn't make weight... Let's not act like he'd be small at 130 or 35 because dude was 145 and still going strong after 12 rounds of bombs. He's actually bigger than Chavez jr at 160. Going up by more percentage wise it's actually a ton of weight. 10 pound weight advantage of solid muscle is massive when you're only weighing 130 ish pounds let's not act like it isnt. But hey, don't hate the player hate the game... It's not an issue as long as they make weight but he didn't. I like Walters but he didn't make weight and basically purchased an enormous strength advantage.Excessive or not, I don't blame the fighter till it's legit and not forbidden. And yeah, Crawford is huge! Dulorme was a big solid 140 and if I remember right Crawford looked even bigger than him. We all know Gamboa lost to Crawford because the size was too much BUT Gamboa foolishly was in a weight class or two above where he should be and Crawford makes weight.
The irony of Donaire saying Walters was tol big though lmaoLast edited by NearHypnos; 06-14-2015, 10:57 AM.Comment
