The significance is more due to the adverse effects of the fighter who was losing all the weight rather than because of the weight difference between two opponents in the ring. Not that I like it that Walters was 10 pounds heavier than Marriaga in the ring but Walters and, to some extent, pretty much every other fighter are losing a lot of weight to make weight. Walters is also not usually 10 pounds heavier than his opponents, for example Walters was 5 pounds heavier than Donaire and 7 pounds lighter than he was last night.

I don't like it. But at the same time, he has holes in his game that will be exploited by bigger fighters. So at this stage in his career he needs to stay between 126-130 to sharpen up for when he moves up.

Going up by more percentage wise it's actually a ton of weight. 10 pound weight advantage of solid muscle is massive when you're only weighing 130 ish pounds let's not act like it isnt. But hey, don't hate the player hate the game... It's not an issue as long as they make weight but he didn't. I like Walters but he didn't make weight and basically purchased an enormous strength advantage.

But you know my point is that I judge Walters by the same rules as every fighter and I don't care about how many pounds he regained. If he could do 126 probably he would have been still 145 or so... Doesn't change anything.

I blame him because he couldn't make the weight but this "rehydrates too much" talk is a bullshit. And only because once he missed the weight I won't crucify him. It's not cool but let's not get overboard because of it.

They need to bring back same day weigh ins. Or at least make it a rule that no fighter can gain more than 10 pounds, more than that is downright unhealthy and unprofessional.

If a big guy can continue to make weight in a small weight class, I have no problem with it. But after missing weight, it's pretty clear that Walters's time to move up is now, or at least in the very near future.
As far as height and reach, I agree. Walters will be fine even above 130 with that reach. But this is not enough to determine where someone should be fighting. Celestino Caballero and Jeffrey Mathebula were 5'11" super bantamweights with a 72-73" reach. This woud be enough to compete as high as light heavyweight...

Walters was a featherweight in the amateurs and he doesn't have the frame to fight above lightweight. I wish we had a picture of him next to a Garcia, Thurman, Porter or Brook or even Crawford who was a lightweight not too long ago. That would open some eyes.

What's so ironic. Donaire isn't nearly as big as people make him out to be. He's tall but very pudgy at 122 and 126.

People just wanted to see Donaire lose so they kept saying he should move up. I feel he's a genuine 122 or 126 lb fighter.

Also for Walters the guy is 28 and is obviously a lightweight feasting on small guys including Donaire. I mean he has a 73 inch reach, that's longer than the usually long arms Mayweather.

Rehydration rules are the way to go, but promoters won't want them because they don't want to risk a canceled fight just hours before the card begins.

Walters is a big 126 pounder he was already lean with no fat on fight night and weighed 145 pounds and probably a few more extra pounds by fight time with proper rehydration.

Reminds me of Joan Guzman who used to fight at 122 pounds with a walk around weight of 155 pounds. Walters weighs more walking around than Pacquiao, Floyd and Marquez yet he is fighting at 126 pounds, thats insane.

Walters impressed me big time knowing that he cuts that much weight is insane, he should be fighting at 140 pounds with that type of size he walks around at with lean muscle mass already.

I think he should be at 135 already, but not sure if his power will carry up in weight.
Here you are crying g about this guy weight, but I'll bet dollars to cents you don't have a problem with this g boy begging a guy who maybe might weigh in at one 150-153 on fight night to give him a shot. Yeah I know you know who I'm talking about , but if you are going to complain make sure you're not leaving out this bum g something. .
