Once again. Froch ain't nothing special. He is a notch below Great. A B-level fighter. His competition is Kessler, who was completely dominated by Calzaghe. No need to debate. Froch is nowhere near Calzaghe's level and Joe is too damn quick for that snail, Froch. And Joe has the ability to box and fight.

I never understood why people say Calzaghe avoided Froch.

Calzaghe had already retired before Froch had even fought at world level such as the Pascal fight. He had only fought at domestic and European level by the time Calzaghe retired. Nobody even knew who Froch was. This was before Super Six, before Pascal. He was just a domestic/Euro level fighter.

Anyway, i'd take Calzaghe to win a fairly comfortable UD prime for prime. He's demolishing nobody but due to their styles, i think he wins.

Beating an undefeated Kessler was a great win but also annoying because it showed how good he can be when he wanted to actually take on a prime undefeated fighter who was genuinely world class.

Also a lot of people now shun his win over Lacy but i think it's unfair to judge a fight on hindsight. You must judge a fight as it was at the time, and Lacy was favoured to win to again i think its a good win. That doesn't go for that fight only, but any fighters. I don't judge their win with hindsight, i take it for what it was at the time they fought.

He didn't have the balls to fight froch when froch badly wanted it. The prick should STFU and go back to the valleys.

At the time it would have been a guy ranked in the top 5 P4P (whether you agree is another thing) 2 weight ring champion, verses a guy who had only fought as high as European level at the time.

People these days actually call that cherry picking and fighters would be slated for making such fights.

It was his mandatory. He retired instead.

Froch had the exact same situation with Groves, Froch fought him and crossed that off the list.

Then why didn't you fight him? I also think he would have beaten Froch at the time too but coulda, woulda, shoulda... Fact was he didn't fight him even though there were chances for that fight to be made, he fought less names, less deserving boxers who came from oversea just for the payday, he had a younger domestic fighter there but he chose not to give him a chance the same way Eubank did for him. His words now seem meaningless because Froch has gone on to achieve more than Calzaghe himself.

You can slice and dice it whichever way you want, Joe c avoided that fight, am a massive Joe C and am willing to admit that he avoid that fight, he wasn't fighting Lacy or Hopkins every fight, he had over 20 defences with no names during the time that we were calling for the Froch fight, what if Eubank didn't give Calzaghe a chance? Froch stepped up and fought his domestic rival twice, both Calzaghe and Hatton did a runner.

Hopkins did win, all Joe did was piddy pat him the whole fight.
I had Hopkins winning too. Boxing is about who lands the effective punches and anyone who thinks Calzaghe landed the more effective blows are kidding themselves.

He didn't avoid the fight to avoid Froch, he said he wanted bigger names at the end of his career and Froch wasn't a name at the time. Plus you can hardly call it avoiding the fight when he retired, I wish more fighters knew when it was time to retire instead of fighting on too long.

I've never got the Carl Froch 'ducking' thing...

Calzaghe was getting pressure at the time for never fighting in USA... what would you do, fight in Vegas for the LHW Ring Title or fight the British SuperMiddle Champ?

                      No brainer.
