Johnson is a C fighter...maybe a B fighter on a good night who took the fight on short notice. He actually didn't look bad at all for the 1st 4 rounds but that's all the conditioning he had and until he faded by the end of the 4th by virtue of it Beterbiev didn't look impressive at all. I don't think he has a chance against Kovalev.

Artur still has a lot of work to do. He has to learn how to throw a jab lol. He has to master the art of coming forward (working with GGG and Abel wouldn't hurt), sometimes he goes backwards (retreats) for apparently no reason and tries to be slick; that's obviously not him, he has to be a pressure fighter. There is times where he can go without throwing a punch, he has to stop doing that. Not saying he has to throw 100 punches a round, but he has to be a little more active. Also, there was times where he could have worked on the inside but didn't. They need to sharpen his inside work, he has short lethal punches, so why not work on his inside game, once his opponents get close to him he just should just start working.
He still has a lot to learn, hopefully they keep him active and he learns from his mistakes. I'm not convinced by his coach though.
And I don't know why but I somehow like the style of this guy better than Kovalev's or GGG's, it's similar to their but it's somehow still different and this is why I like it better. Maybe because he seems to be more well rounded and not only can gain momentum when his opponent is in the corner or against the ropes. On this fight Beterbiev showed some nice counter fighting game.Comment

... It's true, Kovalev definitely is more "fluid" and he shifts... Beterbiev, instead, is better when fighting inside and he's countering extremely fast.Comment

I think there's a danger of reading into one performance, people weren't saying this stuff after Campillo and Cloud and they have a far better pedigree than Johnson.
Beterbiev didn't fight with a lot of urgency tonight, he knew his original opponent was gone and this guy was a stand-in. He took his time, won every round except the one he took off before dispatching the guy.Comment

He just needs to use his jab more, since it's a damn stiff one. It would've opened up Johnson sooner for the KO. Though, I doubt he's going to do it by being in Montreal - the trainers there teach an almost amateur style of one-dimensional boxing. He isn't learning anything new there, perhaps the only good thing is sparring with Pascal.Comment

... He obviously has to work more... In two years, Beterbiev had 9 fights and boxed only 26 rounds (that is a little less than 3 rounds per fight)...Comment

Inside work? Maybe he is less polished than Golo or Kova but his inside game imo shits all over GGG's and Kovalev's. Beterbiev is rugged on the inside and doesn't feel himself uncomfortable when he has to fight there. Golovkin has no inside game and Kovalev also feels very uncomfortable on the inside.

... Just because of his inside game I said here (immediately after the Cloud fight) that Beterbiev would be the best opponent for Andre Ward...Comment
