NEW YORK – Bob Arum and Miguel Cotto didn’t exactly part ways on great terms when Cotto signed a multi-fight contract with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports earlier this year.

Cotto’s split with Top Rank Inc., Arum’s promotional company, hasn’t impacted Arum’s opinion of Cotto as a fighter, though. The 83-year-old Arum thinks Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs), the four-division champion from Puerto Rico his company helped build into a star, will defeat Canelo Alvarez when they meet in a highly anticipated pay-per-view fight in the fall.

I say cotto has the power advantage because he actually knocked out or dropped top level guys canelo has not. canelo has youth and not being in so many wars but he hasn't been tested with someone who can punch back. this can be a tough fight or it can be like the Floyd fight canelo can just stay there and look like a rookie getting tagged all night

I'd make Canelo favourite but only just. He's got the edge in speed and size but I think Cotto's the better puncher. Plus Canelo always gets that one gift scorecard so if it goes to decision he's got that in his favour too...

If Canelo's foot work was at least one level above that of Frankenstein's Monster, I could give him a better chance than I do: however, since that isn't the case, I give Cotto the edge (although it would help if Cotto demanded that Canelo make a 152 pound catchweight).
