Canelo's return date confirmed

It's not confirmed because HBO already passed on the date. HBO is looking at October or November and have interest in a pissing match with Mayweather over the date. Especially since Mayweather is a free agent after his next fight and I'm sure HBO will make a play to get him back on their PPV roster for fight number 50.

But what's the meaning of this? I never understood when they put different events on the same date. Maybe they can do better numbers than the other one but it still HARMFUL for their ratings and viewer ship no matter if they beat their rival. This is just dumb as fuck. For example why the hell there are 3 cards on the 20th of June? Roc Nation card with Ward, PBC on NBC with Broner vs Porter and Lemieux vs N'dam in Montreal. It just doesn't make sense, everybody loses on this relatively.

The same reason why people compare whose junk is bigger. Posturing. If Canelo says that he outdid Mayweather in a PPV, people would lap that all the way to mean that Canelo > Mayweather in terms of star power. Just posturing, they don't care if they hurt boxing in general, they just care to call themselves the bigger name.

Going head to head ONLY hurts Showtime. Showtime is losing money on most of Mayweathers fights the exception being (vs Canelo and Pacman) all the other fights have been somewhere in the 800K PPV buys range which after you account for the ridiculous contract they gave Floyd with high guarantee amounts Showtime loses out on millions. And that's with no head to head competition.

Say what you want about Canelo has Star power and is a big draw and HBO is not paying Canelo insane purses like Mayweather is getting. If Cotto doesn't walk away from the Canelo fight again then this ain't even a discussion Floyd will move from the date. Mayweather vs Khan or anybody else can't compete with that fight. fight isn't big enough to make hard core Canelo fans pick that over him. Especially if they don't have to pay PPV.

The only way Canelo can possibly compete with Mayweather is to fight Cotto and I very much doubt that Cotto will fight in September.
