Hopkins is an ATG, master tactician but man is he a nitwit.

Any time anything gets him slightly out of his comfort zone, he brings race into the equation.

Like him being black has anything to do with the city taxes.

The last I checked Philly has a huge black population (45% ish) that pay their taxes just fine.

STFU and stop blaming the 'man' for keeping you down Bernard.

Hopkins is right, yet most of the posters on this site are complete morons and won't acknowledge it. Joe Frazier is an ATG yet has only recently had a modest statue put up in his honor, 40 years or so after he retired! Yet they glorify the joke that is Rocky Balboa. Convenient for the establishment that he's white, huh?
Pathetic that racism still plays a part in society. Hopkins is also right that he has been a role model. A highly successful fighter and ATG who learned from his mistakes and turned his life into a huge positive.

is it fair that athletes receive more attention and money as a result of getting in trouble? does that send a good message to the youth?
So he deserves credit for doing what the law mandates thast we do anyways?

              No.

If he wants credit for being a sports icon, that's one thing.

If he craves credit for staying out of prison then go back to the place you were kept and talk to the warden.

              F@ck all that b%llsh&t.

Whether right or wrong, Hopkins is speaking from his heart. That is how he feels, it is not arrogant or misguided, its just what he feels. I really appreciate the fact that he has been clean for a very long time, takes care of himself, doesn't drink or smoke. A truly dedicated pro at their craft does not get caught up in the money, the night life, the women, the drugs, etc, and he is very rare that way. I agree with him that fictional characters get far more recognition than real ones. I don't know whether what he is experiencing has racial foundations or not but at least he is willing to express himself.

Cinema and the Rocky movies brought infinitely more noteriety to the Philly area then Frazier did. Not only that, were you around in the late 60's and 70's to see how he was received by the public? He was an absolute icon.

You don't know what you're talking about. Nobody needs to be praised for obeying the law. White, black, green, it don't matter.

Not only that, I almost never hear anyone bring up Bernards prison background when talking about him in boxing or otherwise unless it is to make a point about one straightening out themselves.

                      Well said.

Bernard is a good role model for anyone who wants to turn their life around, but quit pulling the race card and looking for attention.
