Golovkin earned the right to face the WBC champion when he won the Interim title from Rubio. A title he has defended twice since that day, winning both times and cementing his position. But you would rather ignore the rules and have the champion choose his own opponent instead of fighting the one he is honor bound to face in the ring.

In what world would that seem right to you? If you think things should work that way, then you are a man without honor like the fighter you idolize.
Crazy right? Dudes aren't even boxing fans anymore. They are agenda fans who just throw all logic and history out the window, but still, at the same time, want to claim the fighter they are backing is the champion of this and that. I sometimes can't believe the crap I read, "the mw champion shouldn't have to fight another middleweight if he doesn't want to because he calls the shots. He can hold the belt for 4 years and fight at 157 every time, because he calls the shots". Seriously, all this crap about being the shot caller, has put a damper on boxing, the worst part, is the fans who back it up.

    • The difference between Cotto and GGG is simple: Cotto has fought them all, earned his stripes and right to go out with as much $$$ as he can while maintaining his health. Cotto has done it all and really, there is NO comparison between a guy like Cotto and a Journeyman Killer named GGG.

I see now, why Cotto is conducting himself as he has been lately. "This is about respect," in cotto's own words. He is NOT about to let some hyped up Rookie, act like he is on the level. GGG however great he looks in that shyt division, has not done 1/4 of what Cotto has done in this sport. Most men who earn their stripes, take issue with rookies trying to come in and eat of their sweat equity. Earn it bytches!

Its more accurate to say you have a job and your boss promised you are next in line to be promoted. You are the best worker your company has and yet, these guys below you who aren't as good get promotions before you. You even have a contract that states you're next to be promoted. But it doesn't come.

Remember, Golovkin has been patiently waiting for a shot at the lineal title. Martinez wouldn't fight him and now Cotto, meanwhile guys like Geale and Canelo are getting shots at the title, but not Golovkin who is the best in the division. How can you blame Golovkin for "nagging" for a shot at the title that he is #1 challenger for and mandatory? This is his job, to unify the titles. Boxing has turned full on ******ed when fans don't want unifications.

Great post! I agree with the last line whole heartedly!

We are getting Cotto vs Canelo which is the biggest fight in the sport now. Cotto isn't afraid of Golovkin. It is a difficult fight for Cotto and it wouldn't surprise me if they fight. As long as Cotto beats Canelo, which is not a easy fight. That is a true 50/50 fight.
This is why its ducking. He won the middleweight title, and will be having a third fight in a row, against someone who isn't allowed to fight at the middleweight limit.

ALL believe their agenda is the only truth.

You have senior citizens on here, who think that GGG beating Cotto makes him the greatest MW champion in history. It does not... the world knows Miguel is NO MW.

Just like Cotto walked away from the Canelo negotiation and stopped returning their calls he will do the same to GGG Team. The man has made it clear that he will do things His Way or No Fight.
He can fight GGG or he can not fight GGG, either way GGG gets his belt.

the only difference between cotto and golovkin is luck. cotto was lucky enough to belong to a lucrative ethnic demographic and lucky enough to have some other popular fighters in his weight divisions who were willing to fight him. if boxing was run like a proper sport, golovkin would already have sturm, martinez, quillin, cotto and others on his resume right now and he'd be a huge star

GGG hasn't won a belt in like 2 years, he's doing a fine job. Also, would unifying MW or beating Carl Froch do more for his legacy? I'll tell you right now a win over Froch is better than Andy Lee and getting a vacant shot of the WBC and beating Quillon. Especially since they 100% think Cotto will never fight them, they say it enough.

There was just an interview with Sanchez after the Cotto/Geale fight saying Cotto will never fight him. If he wants to unify I'm not against that, but Natas seems to think Lee and Quillin are better than beating Froch or Ward. And that brings us around as to why he wants to unify... it's a really good excuse to keep fighting and calling out a much smaller guy for a much bigger payday than Froch or Ward. His guise of unification fools people who are his nuthugging fans, when he just wants the money and drawing power. I have no problem with fame and $$$, just don't say you want unification instead of that be real about it. Because when Froch started heating up to the idea, GGG was all over that. Now, that Froch isn't sure it's "Well we really want to unify."

If he were so high on unifying the MW division he would go after the other titles as a matter of fact isn't one of the other titles vacant right now. He grabs another title while Cotto/Canelo is sorted out **** he should be begging to get on the under card of Cotto/Canelo verses a live dog and steal the show that night.
I don't know where this GGG has no name thing comes from. He is probably the most talked about fighter in the sport, is on HBO more than any fighter in the sport, fights more frequently than almost any fighter in the sport, and destroys guys emphatically.

GGG has a name. People's gripe with him is that he hasn't beaten any names.

Neither did Hopkins for the first god knows how many defenses of his middleweight crown.

But when you hold all the belts, eventually someone has to fight you. GGG wants all the belts. Then someone has to fight him, unless fighters want to start leapfroging 160, and move straight to 174.
