    Molina- Opportunity of lifetime!

    I have only 1 question..

Ranked 56, no name fighter, about to fight for the WBC HW championship of the world! Who has never once beaten a credible opponent.

Only one word comes to mind.

    Unbelievable!!

But has it happened ever before in the past?

It's no secret that old time boxers gave opportunities to total bums.

Sonny Liston and Joe Louis's entire careers were built feasting on a steady diet of bums for example.

But those guys were RANKED opponents of their day, it was merely the ERA that was weak why they had such ****ty records!

But has there ever been another contender besides Molina that has been given an opportunity at one of the major world HW titles who was ranked even lower????

    Surely not!!

I doubt he can win, but if he does upset Wilder, it will be the most laughable incident in boxing history, ever!

Eric Molina.. WBC HW champion of the world.

It would be hilarious if he landed a lucky punch... but not really because then wilder would make a bunch of money on the rematch and have an excuse to duck povetkin

That is true, but if a miracle happens, then I think a Povetkin fight would suddenly be off the radar for Wilder anyway, nor would Povetkin want to bother fighting him.

Wilder's stock will fall from the sky quicker than the Hindenburg.

        Let's hope it happens.

I understand first defenses are hometown showcases where you're supposed to look good, but this is beyond pathetic.

However, I'd prefer Povetkin taking that belt and busting Wilder's bubble better.

Jesse Ferguson beat Ray Mercer in what was only a tune up fight as Mercer was getting a title shot at Rid**** Bowe along with a 6 million pay day. Bowe actually gave Jesse a title shot which was bogus. Tommy Morrison defended his lightly regarded WBO title (wasn't recognized as a world strap until 2004-2005)against Michael Bentt. He wanted a quick payday from HBO before his 8 million purse & WBC title shot at Lennox Lewis. He ended up losing to lewis in a non title fight later...

Definitely a huge opportunity for Molina. If he somehow wins he's the HW champion & gots huge money coming his way. If he loses as expected he's gonna be a garnered opponent for up & coming guys & contenders to measure themselves against Wilder. Win Win for Molina's bank account either way.

Molina vs Leapai and the JM Mormeck who fought WK would be interesting fights.

Not sure who I'd pick tbh

I just checked and your right!!

Why was it claimed elsewhere that Molina was ranked 50 something then?

Sorry I have to retract that initial assumption then which kind of negates the entire thread question.

Except I'd like to know how Molina gets pushed to number 9 after getting absolutely destroyed by Arreola and not doing anything else of note??

I think someone cited Boxrec for that ranking. On topic: Ali gave Chuck Wepner a title shot and supposedly that was the inspiration for the movie Rocky
