Not sure what Crawford has proved to be Top 10 worthy. I think he's even more overhyped than GGGComment

The main reason I have Mayweather cleanly ahead, imo, is that I think the average quality of his recent opposition has been much greater than that for Gonzalez. This is to no fault of Gonzalez of course, but besides Estrada there aren't very many victories of his I care greatly about. You can say Yaegashi I guess, plus Sosa wasn't a bad pick either and he did totally own him. But pit that against Mayweather beating Cotto, Alvarez, Maidana, Pacquiao in his last several bouts and it's hard to put anyone ahead of him for the time being.I get where you are coming from - but where is the time cut off? You can see that Ward is now off most P4P lists because of 18 months of inactivity. I make the argument that recent performances should carry more weight than performances from 2 years or more ago. So Mayweather has looked good in the last 2 years but not great when compared to previous years. He has still looked very very good though, good enough in fact to be 2nd on my list. But Gonzalez is carrying all before him and when Mayweather fans crap on about 48-0 they forget to look that Gonzalez is steaming along at 42-0. Regards the rest of my list I explained my reasoning in post #59. That's why I would not have Garcia on my list as regardless of how he looked 3 years ago he has had 2 lucky decisions by my books. But the time factor isn't everything. In an ideal world we would just go by performances but some divisions are just plain weak and some fighters are swerved like the plague to borrow Froch's turn of phrase.
When Mayweather retires tho, and barring something great from Klitschko (like huge wins against Fury and Wilder) or Golovkin (perhaps big wins over Cotto/Canelo/Ward could push him up), Roman Gonzalez is going to pretty safely cruise up to #1 p4p on many lists.Comment

This list is crap right after #1.The top two remain unchanged. Floyd Mayweather’s lopsided win over Manny Pacquiao further validated his place at the peak. Until someone beats him, he has earned the right to remain. His heir may be in place.
Roman Gonzalez finally has the opportunity to show the biggest money market in boxing what may already knew. The Flyweight destroyer is special and, scary as it might be for foes, may only be hitting his peak at age 27.
The rest of the list is well shook up. The great Juan Manuel Marquez (previously number 6) exits the list due to inactivity with no fights in a year and nothing scheduled. It’s a couple weeks shy of a year for Super Middleweight Carl Froch (previously number 7). With nothing scheduled and questions of if he will ever fight again, he also exits. Should anything change before the next update this can be reconsidered.

Roman Gonzalez number 2? Kovalev number 3?
Should be Rigo and Wladimir in those two spots.Comment

Yeah of course, I know what the whole P4P thing is, but the best way to judge a fighters skill is based off of how many top fighters he has faced. For as good as Gonzalez is and all the hype he is getting, is he really better than Pacquiao or Wlad or can he be ranked higher than Rigo, who only has one stand out win but what a stand out win that is.I don't think anyone has ever quite that worked out with any degree of consistent uniformity.
Some think it's a skills-based subjective selection, i.e. if everyone was the same size, who would win or who is the best? while others subjectively rate the resumes in boxing and base the list on achievement.
How can Crawford be ranked higher than Canelo when Canelo has the better opposition and the better wins?
Pacquiao has dropped to 6th for what? Losing to Mayweather? That's ridiculous. It's why I don't bother with any of these biased and quite frankly, ****** P4P lists. They not only insult fans intelligence but are biased by networks, magazines and personal bias. Money, it's where it's at. Gonzalez is being promoted as such cos HBO, a major network want to sell him as the next great attraction.Comment

Crawford is overrated, he beat a little featherweight in Gamboa. Who else he beat? NO ONE! He shouldn't be considered in the Top 10, let alone that high as Top 3. Terence Charcoal Crawford is solid, but not Great.Comment

The issue is defining the criteria.
I always support the writers, because a P4P list is subjective, and opinon only....
.... in saying that, worst list that I have seen for awhile.
IMHO, the criteria should be based on two things..... accomplishments, the ability to beat a larger opponent because you are a better fighter.
I cant see how Kovalev qualifies for either of those two things, and Golovkin also to a lesser extent.
Golovkin could be.
Its all how you see it man, just like the judges.Comment
