Comments Thread For: Leo Santa Cruz Sees Mares As Path To Regain Fans

Leo Santa Cruz (30-0-1, 17KOs) is looking to regain the faith of the fans, and says a fight with Southern California rival Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15KOs) is the way back.

Fans have been attacked Santa Cruz for lack of top opponents in his recent ring appearances. Santa Cruz has taken part in some mismatches with Miguel Roman, Jesus Ruiz and Jose Cayetano.

Mares, a former three division world champion, has been trying to rebuild himself since the knockout loss to Jhonny Gonzalez in August of 2013. He's won three straight since then.

Haymon has blessed his bank account but that came at a price. Leo has no respect at all. Mexicans don't even wanna acknowledge him as a fellow mexican anymore. I don't blame them either.

Not anymore. Mares looks terrible lately, and this fight would be years too late. What's sad is that no one, not even people on NSB, will care. Just like with Mayweather/Pac.

Seriously, how does anyone still care about Mares/Santa Cruz? Both guys have done nothing but look like crap against mediocre opponents for 2 years now. It might be a decent fight, but it sure as hell doesn't mean anything besides being a decent fight. It certainly doesn't redeem Santa Cruz ducking everyone worth a damn in his division.

... They will make a PBC fight: with no weight class, with no belt on the line, with no suspense.

He's a joke man. A hipster Mexican lol. He's no real Mexican. He wouldn't fight Frampton and blatantly ducked Rigo, I won't be watching his fights anymore.

Rigo has no fans, US TV networks hate him, and he wants to be paid top dollar. What's the upside in fighting Rigo again? Even the almighty HBO wants nothing to do with him.
