It's all about star apeal, GGG brings knockouts !!! His next fight should be against kid chocolate but, we all know that's not happening. So miguel being a big name and supposedly the middle weight champ of corse he wants to fight him! And as for Danny Garcia he is rican and with a pretty face, they will support him until he starts losing.

"Rigo/Ward with far more talent", again this is an example of setting up a false premise. Just because he is a come forward fighter and wins fights that way, does not mean he is any less talented. He can't fight the way Rigo fights, and Rigo can't fight the way GGG fights. And last time I checked, Rigo got knocked down in his last outing, showing some chinks in the armour. I could pounce that if I were to stoop low to your level, but I won't. He is still winning his fights and should be greatful that Donaire gave him the opportunity, because Donaire was his Cotto - and Miguel is is in no hurry to fight GGG.

Also, if Rigo is not being televised, then that is no different then Wlad Klitschko - the reigning heavyweight champion not being televised. If you're an objective network who shows all the top fighters/talents, you have to cover the The Champion of Champions, whether you like his style of fighting or not.
The only reason they brought Wlad back is because he does draw viewership and he does sell out arenas in one continent. Rigo can't speak english, doesn't fight in a fan friendly style, and apparently there aren't enough Cuban Americans to fill out an entire arena as HBO/Showtime love to televise a fight where the arena is full and doesn't look like a Club venue with 100 people watching.

For boxing to maintain and grow global interest in a post-Mayweather/Pacquiao world, it needs as much marketing trickery as possible to attract main****** fans. It's up to the dedicated boxing community (the analysts) to determine if the hype is deserved. But the popularity that such marketing efforts bring is ultimately good for the sport.
So much of the past decade has been dedicated to promoting two fighters. Now that both are in the twilight of their careers, the onus is now on HBO and Showtime to hype the next generation.

I don't place a huge amount of stock in belts, Ring or TBR ranking is more important to me.

Originally posted by PurePugilist216 View PostThe reason why he is hyped up and doesn't deserve all this praise from everyone, especially compared to fighters like Rigo and Ward is because they actually are proven. Rigo dominated a fighter coming off fighter of the year in his prime, Ward dominated the best fighters in his division and won a tournament for it, what the hell has GGG done? Oh yea he's knocking out subpar fighters that nobody has heard of.
Oh yeah, he would be some little man with less then 10 fights who won a Interim belt.
And he DOES deserve the hype because one way to make up for lack of fighting of top tier talent, is activity. If a top fighter can't land all the big names, he should at least step up his per year activity level.
Andre Ward, whether he is stuck in a promotional dispute or not, does not seem to be able or willing to fight more then twice a year at best. Even with HBO willing to televise him and give him dates.
Meanwhile, GGG will probably be back in less then 3 months unless Cotto offers him a contract in surprising fashion, and he decides to slow down and promote his first BIG EVENT FIGHT.

The middleweight division is crap, I'm honestly not interested in seeing GGG vs Quillin. Quillin is absolutely garbage and was being courted as our next great middleweight champion but most people caught on quick, especially after he ducked GGG. Eventually GGG is going to have to move up and that's where we'll see how great he really is, because beating up on smaller guys like Cotto and Canelo or absolutely overhyped trash like Quillin won't do anything for me. all that will prove is he has a great time behind him that makes smart business decisions.
