Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is looking to return on September 12th, and he won't step aside if Floyd Mayweather Jr. intends to fight on the date as well. Canelo is contracted to HBO, while Mayweather still has one fight remaining on his contract with Showtime.

Canelo had planned to fight on May 2nd, but moved to May 9th after Mayweather reached an agreement to face Manny Pacquiao on the date. The fight broke pay-per-view records with a 4.4 million buyrate. Canelo drew a huge television rating on HBO with a third round knockout of James Kirkland.

Mayweather says that he wants to return in September as the final fight for his career. He left the door open for a possible future fight in 2016 when telling reporters "I'm only human, I change my mind."

Canelo shouldnt he will have more buys then Floyd. Its over for Floyd. Great defensive fighter, not enough no excitement. Everyone wanted Pac they got it and thats it. The fight that could make people really tune in besides Floyds hardcore fans are Triple GGG.

Floyd needs a fight where people really thinks he cant win. Triple GGG is the only guy I can think of.

I wouldn't be too sure. This is no longer about having a fight around the same date as Mayweather vs. Pac. We're done with that and I don't even think a rematch is happening. I feel Canelo can stick to the date this time IMO.

I am sure of it! No one in the business boxing is THAT ignorant to put a fight up against Mayweather's farewell fight. No one will cosign that pipe dream with Canelo. Not happening, period. That would be a business self-inflicted wound for GBP.

I read it somewhere but there's a lot of information going the other way so I'm not really sure now. Canelo saying he is going to fight on September 12 doesn't sound like anything is guaranteed. Cotto isn't going to go up against Floyd unless it's in the ring, that really screams that it's not done. Also, the only thing saying they have to fight is a "source." As stated, there was another source that said it was done, then said it was Mayweather/Cotto II, both instances it was wrong.

so cotto him self admitted that there is an agreement to a canelo fight next, is that source not good enough?
i thought that didnt apply for a geale fight... wishful thinking ...
