I don't think anybody's overrating Hatton. Nobody is claiming he was an ATG, and he was the best JW in the world for 3/4 years and never lost at that weight.
Apart from his ill-advised comeback, Hatton's only defeats came when he moved up in weight to test himself against Floyd and Manny, who are ATGs and were at the peak of their powers when Ricky fought them both, back to back.
If he'd played it safe instead of taking risks like that, Hatton could easily have retired unbeaten. The sad thing about Hatton is that he could have been even better than he was if he'd respected his body and looked after himself in between fights, the way Manny and Floyd do.
