Would Canelo/Mayboy be different now?

I'm not saying Canel would win and as I said before the fight, Canelo should do the job on Kirkland, I don't rate that guy but there have been a lot of improvements in his game. There are numerous factors that have changed since 2013.

Did he beat Trout convincingly~ no

Did he beat Lara convincingly~ no

Did he beat Kirkland convincingly~ yes

One mediocre boxer

One pretty good boxer that has a limited set of moves

One brawler who can't box his way out of a wet paper sack.

Floyd didn't beat Maidana convincingly did he?

Can't judge things on style match ups alone.

I think Trout, a good boxer with very good footwork had a closer fight with Canelo than Lara, imo anyway. I know some people, I dunno how, think Lara won but that's ridiculous to me. Canelo was better at cutting off the ring from the Trout/Mayweather days, plus he throws better punches and doesn't over commit with looping shots. He showed that against Lara and against Kirkland too. He has also improved his fitness levels and doesn't fade as bad in the latter rounds as he used to.

Not to mention the maturity that comes with age, being 24 as opposed to 22 last time out. And another major factor, not having to boil down to 152, Canelo is already big at the weight, cutting that excess weight was bad for him. So there are a lot of factors and rematches are a part of boxing, especially when the same guys are near or at the top of their divisions.

Trout is alright, not really anything special. Lara is a bit better.

I am fine with Canelo winning both those fights, but there is nothing in those fights that says to me he can every really hang with a top end boxer.

I don't know how age will go, usually as guys age their determination and desire to improve goes with it. Canelo has already been sleeping on those silk sheets for a long time, and he has never struck me as a super hard worker to begin with (he seems to be the boss in his camps).

I just can't see the reasons to think it would change much, and if I thought that I would have thought that on Friday and before, Saturday would have nothing to do with it.

Trout beat Cotto and Lara was being viewed as the second coming by most of you. Let's get real now, Canelo has beaten 2 of the top 5 light middles in recent years and two of the best sluggers in his division in a heck of a long time (although Angulo was all but shot). Give the guy some credit, jeez.

They weren't meant to stop him from running. They were meant to score points on a moving target. He couldn't get near his face so he invested in the body and it saved him and helped him edge out a decision.

He wasn't able to land clean punches on Floyds head but he was able to land some body work on Floyd. And it was the only thing effective that he did he just didn't do it enough.

To me that fight wasn't that close. 8-4 is a lot more convincing than either the Trout or Lara fights. Also over 24 rounds Floyd won like 18, Canelo won like 14.


No there hasn't been improvements he is the exact same guy, I see no real difference from Trout to Floyd to Lara. That is a guy who is going to get outboxed when he runs into the wrong guys, because he doesn't have the physical attributes to do what he does best against that sort of fighter.
