Would Canelo's slow start fall into Cotto's favor?

I'm referring to Canelo's rather slow/passive start in the Kirkland fight. At the very beginning of the fight, he was letting Kirkland tee off on him while he balanced himself on the ropes. He wasn't using much head movement, however, most of the shots were being blocked or deflected, but some did get through. \

I think it's safe to say that Cotto's a little sharper than Kirkland though, especially with his looping hooks. And he actually comes in with a jab.

Most people tend to favor Canelo in this matchup, as do I, but Canelo has to be very careful and get a nice rhythm going early on. Otherwise Cotto might clip him early.

Uhh, yeah that's definitely a possibility. You don't think so?

He jumped on Martinez who is a natural MW.

Cotto doesn't really come apart against hard chargers, he loses against guys that are steady and consistent. Canelo's patience and measuring would serve him very well against Cotto. Canelo pauses when he gets hit so he really needs to stay alert and patient with Cotto. Consistently working the body will be his ticket He'll wear Cotto down with those, making him ineffective in the latter rounds.

Case could be made that Kirkland punches a fair bit harder than Cotto since he's been one punch KO'ing middleweights. So I think Canelo wouldn't need to weather it so much as he did with Kirkland in the first round.

He seemed a little gunshy to begin with but compared to previous fights this was actually a fast start from the ginger kid, he dropped him hard in the second round.
