a lot of that is cole being a biased ref. he pryed figeuroa's arm off a couple times too but the only thing i recall cole warning him for was pushing with his shoulder. if this wasnt a regular thing with cole favoring the hometown guy, i wouldnt have a problem with a point deduction. he rarely warns the hometown fighter, nevermind taking a point from them. i just thought he was way too involved. im ok with the point deduction in the 11th as burns was just holding on for survival. i feel that if figueroa was clearly winning the fight, you wouldn't have seen so much involvement from him. Before both point deductions, the ref had to literally pry Burns arm from around Fig's arm. He was latched on like a dog in heat. If he let go with a soft slap from the ref, then fine, no problem. When the ref has to pry him loose, there is a big problem. And when a fighter has been warned multiple times and broken up many times, a ref has to deduct a point. If he does not, he might as well not be there.
more than any other referee anywhere in the world, when i see laurence cole in there before the bell rings, i say to myself "oh jeez, here we go..."
i enjoyed the fight either way. i thought burns was gonna get blown out since he hasnt looked that great over the last few years. starting with that terrible gift draw against beltran.Comment

Thought the scores were very wide for Fig, but wasn't suprised, many rounds were very competitive and when they're like that the hometown guy is expected to get the rounds, I think if it was in a neutral area it would have been much closer on the cards too, I think the second point deduction was a bit cruel.
Can't see this guy fairing too well at 140 or above, a lot of big hitters around those weights that will punish him for making the mistakes he does and being willing to take the punishment he does, he's exciting and has a big tank but I can see him having a short career, fighting like that all the time takes its toll.Comment

missed the fight, glad for Ricky that he did well.
Is McDonnell a unified champ now?
Outrageous. The man has really improved.Comment

i think a solid in-fighter like peterson eats that kid alive. peterson has a lot more pop than burns and he has a nice body attack. maybe throw him in with guys like hank lundy or antonio demarco. looking at the top 10, im not sure he fares well against any of those guys. i bet him and john molina would be a fun fightThought the scores were very wide for Fig, but wasn't suprised, many rounds were very competitive and when they're like that the hometown guy is expected to get the rounds, I think if it was in a neutral area it would have been much closer on the cards too, I think the second point deduction was a bit cruel.
