Comments Thread For: SHO's Bernstein: Khan is Legit Threat in Mayweather Bout

Showtime broadcast analyst Al Bernstein views British star Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs) as a tough opponent for WBC/WBO/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs). Mayweather is planning to return again in the month of September and Khan has been mentioned as a potential opponent.

Khan is set to return on May 29th against Chris Algieri at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The fight will be televised by Spike TV. If successful, he says Ramadan will not interfere with facing Mayweather in September.

Al is on point as usual. Khan can compete with anybody in the WW division. And Tommy Hearns in his prime with that jab and power right hand.

Al's been hitting the bottle again - and hard. Danny Garcia can knock Khan into next year, but Floyd faces a legit threat in Amir? Who are you kidding Al? Fighting Khan will be so easy, it will make the Pacquiao bout look like a war.

No he isn't, Khan isn't defensively equipped to compete with Mayweather, Mayweather is gonna use the same looping right hand around the guard that had Cotto backing up, this time it's actually gonna land with far more consistency.

Tommy Hearns? You think Khan could have competed with Tommy Hearns? The Tommy Hearns that knocked Roberto Duran stone cold? Are you at all knowledgeable about Tommy Hearns? Yours is the most ridiculous post on this site that I have ever read. Ever. Delusional.

Said months before Pac/Floyd fight that Khan would have a better chance

                Everyone gave me lols

Stop trying to knock the guy out... He does not trade or give any windows for a knockout. Fighting a freakishly fast boxer like Khan is far more interesting.

I always cringe when guys like AL compares fighters of another era to Floyd. Tommy Hearns is much much bigger than Mayweather a fight between them really was never realistic. Hearns prime was like age 22-30 Mayweather didn't even become a full welterweight until he was 29 years old, and again I stress 29! By age 30 Hearns was fighting regularly at middleweight to even as high as light heavyweight.

So In fantasy land lets say same era. Both are 30 years old(when they were closest in weight still in prime.) Hearns no doubt would of had to meet Mayweather at a weight he would have been drained at. Much like Corrales did. Likely 150-151 and from watching Hearns old fights he probably would have been gassed after a few rds and Mayweather wins a decision or KO's him Corrales style.

I was talking about Hearns vs Floyd not Hearns vs Khan. Read the article you goddamn idiot.
