Out Boxer Style Killing The Sport?

I've read it. He starts off talking about a lack of "action" and knockdowns. If I was a boxer starting out, I wouldn't want to end up like him, that's for sure. If that means a "defensive" style, so be it.

The problem with "running" has been greatly exaggerated too.

Yeah but from the beginning you only care about your bottom line(as you should I guess), but in the same sense the consumer is not supposed to give a **** about that, he is a paying for a product and he is only supposed to care about his bottom line which is to be entertained. He is not talking about what fighters should do(he argues that Mayweather boxes that way because it works for him and no one is stopping him), he argues that scoring needs to be revamped so that boxing becomes a product worth buying again. Something everyone here should understand if not necessarily agree with, is that it is much easier to relate to fighting than boxing.

And everyone starts out as a casual fan, good fights grow interest in the sport and turn casual fans into hardcore fans. Yeah it's annoying to hear casuals talk about boxing, but I used to do the same in the middle school when Oscar fought Mayweather, so I understand.

The only people that really get bothered by your so called "out boxers" are people who do not understand nor appreciate the sweet science, casual fans or just haters. It amazes me how people frown upon and get "bored by" boxers who dedicate their lives to the perfection of a craft and get nothing but negative publicity because of it. Floyd, Ward, Rigondeaux...and I am sure back in the day, Pep, etc. These are master strategists and technicians in the ring. Chessmasters so to speak. All most people appreciate now are face first brawlers like you see in the UFC. It is not about respecting skill and technique anymore, apparently now its what two guys can hit each other in the face the most back and forth before they get knocked out. What are these, Toughman contest filled with drunk rednecks? What other sport are technicians and brilliant practitioners mocked? In Baseball, Football, Hockey and Basketball they are praised and see as masters of their sport or even Gods? Athletes in those sports who are too fast, too quick, have angles, too slick to be touched and can make you look foolish, are worshipped as the best in their respective sports. In Boxing, they are called boring, running, etc. It is complete bull****. It is jealousy and hate is what it is. It is people who could never come close to having those skills or whose favorite fighters do not possess those abilities and get beaten by the "out fighters".

Sure I like many others love Gatti, Marciano, Corrales, Tyson, Chavez, etc. But do not think those fighters would move and dodge if they could have and still be great? Do they just want to get hit? No of course not. They used what they had, their tools and what they were capable of. Masters of the sweet science like Floyd, Whitaker, Rigondeaux will always have smaller followings because their followers are purists and true lovers of the sweet science and its nuances and intricacies. That is of course a smaller group. Most boxing fans are going to love a Pacquiao or a Tyson or a Gatti because they are all action come forward and take and give punches. But please for one minute don't think they would not have loved to move out of the way or parry more shots if they could have. They would, they just don't have the master skillset like the very few true "chessmasters" do. People love the UFC because it is an "everyman" sport and almost anyone can compete it, or that is the feeling they give you. Boxing is much more of a narrow, deeper skillset that takes years of dedication and focus to hone. People have no idea the level of amazing skill and craft it takes to make HOF fighters look ordinary. Not just beat them, but make them look lost or befuddled. It is truly special and in history not many could.

Indeed and it wouldn't bother me if the scoring was fair and the aggressor got the benefit of the doubt since he is making the fight(like they used to in the old days, you know when boxing was popular). The thing is that a lot of these guys just exploit the scoring system, and its starting to look less and less like a fight. I mean what in the hell happened to effective aggressiveness? Defense should be used to supplement offense not the other way around, after Mayweather had Pacquiao figured out he should have gone for the kill, and done a world of good for boxing. The thing is I don't have anything against "slick" fighters but there is a difference between a James Toney and Floyd Mayweather, one is using his boxing skills to take out his opponent while the other is using them to survive.

The way boxing is scored now rewards fighters who don't take a risk and just look to cruise than the guys who are doing the necessary work to make it a fight. But you know don't take my word for it, the proof is everywhere around you, boxing is not half the sport it used to be.

There is only one Floyd Mayweather and instead of criticizing the entire sport of boxing, and the 10s of thousands of fighters involved, people need to watch more boxing so they aren't forming opinions on the entire sport based on 1 out of 1,000 plus fights that take place throughout the year.

Here's another fan that thinks he knows so much about the sport. The all the defensive skills in the world mean absolutely nothing if you can't use those skills to set up offense.

The amateur system has screwed up boxing because know people think landing soft punches constitute enough to win a round and it doesn't.

And making opponents look lost and befuddled? That's something you pulled out your behind because the fighter you speak of might have made his opponent frustrated but never lost.

But what fighter wouldn't be frustrated when he knows his opponent is not only fighting outside the rules of boxing but has no true intentions on fighting but rather softly touching him before moving out of the way.
