xion, you actually initiate the kick partially. you either end up kicking him in the kneecap, or get close, and then wham!

rwk, you are certainly correct. an experienced fighter may lift the leg in order to not recieve the full damage(if i got what you were saying correctly), slide into the attack to nullify the power of it(which is most likely to be at the end of the kick), or simply "circle" through it.

it is very possible to deflect an oncoming low kick with a hand(wouldn't recommend the use of both hands), but notice i say deflect or parry - not taking the full force directly on the forearm or hand. it also depends on the type of low kick as in many traditional arts a kick can very well be transitioned into a step. i personally like to kick, or use the foot to deflect, the oncoming low kick while stepping into an advantageous position.

Ernesto Hoost....who is my favorite kickboxer ever had legs made of steel. Opponents disabled themselves why trying to lower leg kick him. Guys like Remi Bojansky are not exceptions either....they have cyborg legs.

That in my best estimation is one of the most effective strikes in all of fighting in general.
        Isnt Hoost gay?

"When I sparred I always went with leg kicks, every time I tried to kick to high id lose balance soo easy haha."

the higher you kick, the more you risk. before ever practice kicking, you should practice balance exercises. second, high kicks(above the waistline) are generally not recommended outside of practice. now, some people can kick high very quickly and powerfully, but an experienced fighter would/should be able to snatch the leg via rolling with it, sweep the back leg, or just run in at you making your kick useless unless it lands 100% flush and procede to knock you off balance. unless you are walker texas ranger, high kicks will get you in trouble much more than low kicks.

I saw Mirko land clean kicks and the guy doesn't flinch, nowhere in Gerry Cooney's (Mind the 12 ounce gloves which saw off alot of the pop!) entire career will you see anything like that, it's either they KO him or he KTFO's them. But yeah Cro Cop would probably beat Cooney 3 out of 5 fights lol...(Bad chin :P)

                      What J typed is golden.

And one thing you can do man...is this.

Stand on one foot holding a 50 lb dumbell with the corresponding hand....then twist your body to the side.....and turn your back as well. Don't do it fast or else you might hurt yourself.

Do the same with the other hand. That will condition the tendons in the lower part of your legs.
