legacy, there are many ways to deflect a kick with your leg. you HAVE to know what you're doing though. you can deflect with the bottom of the foot, not by recieving the kick on your ankle. and yes, i do have strong feet - i eat my wheaties!
i also love checking at the knee joint. it stops momentum of the kicking leg proviided that it's not at the end of the motion. there are quite a few ways to block a kick in these ways, but you can learn for yourself if you find the right knowlegeable people.
