I see it like this. These HBO's and Showtime's etc have to stop binding fighters further than they are already, shackled by managers and promoters.

Make the purse bid, and if your guy loses the bid, allow him to gracefully go fight a fight on that other network.

We have dealt enough with fighters getting tied down, and restricted by promotional politics. We do not need the networks adding another damn layer of hurdles.

The problem last time is Kovalev has a contract with HBO and the fight can only happen if it's going to be aired on HBO. But if it goes to a purse bid Kathy knows Haymon will overbid her to force the fight to be on PBC. Honestly this fight should be on HBO for many reasons the biggest being is HBO is better quality then PBC. Stevenson has no contract with any individual network so it's a lot easier for him to fight on HBO then it is for Kovalev to fight on PBC. But we all know Haymon wants to control everything and will never allow it.

the objective of a purse bid is NOT to award the fight to a network because said net work "is better quality" or that it's easier for one fighter with no network ties. The objective of a purse bid is to get the fighters the most money, which in turn gets the sanctioning body the most money
