They have argued strenuously that Haymon is making it difficult, if not impossible, for other promoters to operate by what they believe is giving the product away.

Buying the airtime instead of having a network pay a rights fee to acquire it will have a chilling affect on the industry, they said. No matter the success of the PBC, they insist, networks will no longer be willing to pay for boxing if there is someone like Haymon willing to give it away.

I thought the above was the most important part along with Dana White saying promoters do not re invest in the sport. I truly believe Haymon (Roc Nation as well) is working toward eliminating the old school promoter from boxing.

Same fights, just more money in the pockets of the fighters rather than ARum/King types. I don't see how that is bad.

I want the sport to do well, that's the bigger picture in all of this. At the same time, I don't want a monopoly which is what Haymon is trying to achieve IMO.

If promoters don't work with each other, what's the point? I'm all for PBC and any other boxing on national tv. What I'm not for is one promoter signing 50% of the fighters and then refusing to do business with the other major promoters in the sport.

The jury is out on Haymon, and I have a feeling if he is the "Dana White" of boxing, it will be great for the fans and not so good for the fighters.

It's a 2 way street.
Either your paying to show your product in attempts to make it grow similar to an infomercial.
OR your showing a product that people want to buy so that they may display it themselves to attract buyers.

It's interesting as both have their pros and cons.

Honestly, we as boxing fans should just sit back and enjoy the ride because we are getting more fights, better fights, and more free.

It's always better to have competition and someone that comes up with an idea that pisses off others because it shakes up the landscape and that in returns makes the competition have to step up their game to 1 up the other. The fans should win out of this struggle.

What's ironic is there isn't any real evidence that this is true yet I've seen it repeated so many times. Haymon isnt a promoters and has been working with several minor promoters (Di Bella, Warriors Boxing etc). In terms of the major promoters, he worked with Top Rank for Russell - Lomachenko and they're doing Mayweather - Pacquaio.

Where negotiations haven't been successful he's always been willing to have the fights go to purse bids (Stevenson-Kovalev, Dirrell - DeGale) so that the whoever pays the most money gets the fight (apart from Quillin-Korobov). He's also worked with international promoters (see. Porter - Brook and others).

I'm no Haymon stan but lets not spread lies. Don't forget that it was HBO that announced that they wouldn't be working with his stable anymore. They made their move and Haymon moved on. There is no evidence of Haymon burning bridges

The problem is that it is not sustainable. Someone has to pay the bills and right now it is Haymon and his investors. How long do you think they can or will be willing to do that? Right now they are acting like drug pushers... give people a taste for free and when they get hooked, take them for whatever they've got. Unless they can put on a show that proves to be profitable, the networks will not start paying for the product when they are getting paid to air it.

Now if someone can explain to me exactly how this setup really is sustainable, show me that it is indeed making a profit and where that profit is coming from, then I will be willing to reconsider my point of view. Until then, I will remain a skeptic.

Why should I respect Haymon? I do not know the man and he has done nothing to earn my respect. As for his skin color, I'm colorblind. Every dealer I have met in my life has been Caucasian by the way, and yes, some of them have had advanced degrees and paid for their education by dealing. And what other business endeavors has Haymon been successful in? He was turfed out of the music industry and as far as I am aware, that is his only other claim to fame. Not too impressive if you ask me.

As for the demographics, it is all relative. You can put a show on at 3 AM and claim that it has the highest ever rating in that demographic and it will mean nothing at all. Saturday night demographics are not far from that example as far as importance goes. Like I said, it's like bringing home the best looking girl at an ugly girl contest. Sure, she's the hottest one there but she still looks like a troll.

My wanting to know how he is making a profit is as valid a point as that of posters who bring up how much the fighters are being paid. If you can't deal with that, then stop talking about how great the fighters have it.
