She had no idea that they would call for a purse bid so early. There was no reason at all to expect such a quick decision. A purse bid could well have been held after both fighter have their next fight, as would be expected. It is ridiculous to sign a contract for a title unification fight when there is a possibility that one or both of the fighters may lose their title in the interim. That would change everything.

Hold the purse bid after they have had their fights and Duva should be expected to be held to the result.

she will never have enough resources to outbid Haymon for this fight. We all know this. So she shouldn't have asked to be the mandatory because the fight would surely have to go to a purse bid.

She is full of ****! Kov and his management let her do this. They are all culpable.

Haymon is unfortunately the main problem. Yvon Michel of GYM is just another promoter in his pocket. Something has to be done to force Haymon to either be a promoter and operator of the PBC or a manager/advisor. His being allowed to function as both is causing the kind of problems the Ali Act was designed to prevent. GYM on their own could never go up against any US promoter or network. But Yvon Michel is not the most reputable guy around either, there are reasons most of the fighters he has represented over the years left him and will have nothing to do with him today.

I think it does matter about the mando status as it was an unprecedented move by the WBC based on an unusual request by Duva. SHe got what she wanted, then walked away from it.
You do realize that HBO won't let Duva go into the purse bid whether she wanted to or not right? And no, I couldn't care less what they do. I'm a fight fan, I just want to see the fights done at the appropriate time. Kovalev and Stevenson needs to happen this year rather than 4 yrs too late.

          • too early for a purse bid, with both fighters having to fight mandatories. titles, rankings, marketability of both fighters might change if either or both lose their next fights

These are agents acting on his behalf. He is culpable for their decisions because they are the people he has chosen to represent him.

This is the major problem with her argument, however. She refuses to discuss any potential compromise regarding the network for the fight. It's HBO or nothing. I believe that PBC could never do a fight like this justice and give it the presentation it deserves, but you have to be open to discussion.
GYM is faced with the exact same problems. If its ok with GYM, Main Events better comply.

Kovalev wants the fight. That's all that matters
Dude, I'm as big a fan of Kov as anybody but this whole thing is a bad look and Duva's quotes are incomprehensible.

Haymon is a manager. He also has his own boxing series. These are hardly problems.

WHen he signed Stevenson and got him a showtime deal, all we heard was its his fault and Stevenson is a duck. Cool. Now we have this. Same things should be said.

Duva said it was all about the money after the BHop fight. Well this debacle shows otherwise.
