What BS that Taylor shoulda won it!! I reckon hatton was the correct choice, he did win two titles by stopping two respectable champions. Taylor punched hopkins in the face about 5 times in both fights.
I thought Taylor won both fights 7-5. Close, but fairly clear. Esp the 2nd fight. They were pretty clear rounds. I did a round-by-round and scored it 7-5 live, exactly as all 3 judges and Lederman had it.
But that said, I've always felt that Hopkins has been beatable for a long time by a strong, natural middleweight with a jab. He finally faced one, and he lost. Twice. No big surprise.
Hatton beating Kostya was a huge surprise. Nobody but the Brits predicted it. And even some of them thought Hatton would lose. Now Hatton is unified champion and every fighter from 135-147 gets asked about fighting Hatton now- all roads seem to lead through Hatton now in those weight ranges.
The impact Hatton made on the division was much larger than the impact Taylor made in his weight range. Which isn't necessarily fair, but it's a fact. Taylor did as good a job as you can ask fighting a defensive, cautious fighter who is very tough to look good against. And guess what? The poor guy has to now face Wright. So he's up against it, as far as being able to "look" good in a performance. Guys with that style of 80% defensive, just hoping for a decision, are tough to look good against. But if Taylor can get past Wright, then I think you could see him really emerge and shine as a star, as young and talented as he is.
hatton is a ****in ******. he has no wins. maussa is a bum. tzyu is his only credit which in that fight, he wrestled the **** out of tzyu and put on a poor performance. i want mayweather to fight hatton so he can tear him apart
Both fight were close. They could have gone anyway. Judges scored them a win for Taylor. Can't do **** about it move on. Taylor beat hopkins twice and thats it. TWICE! Both fights judged professionaly!
You thought Hopkins won ok but calling the second fight a draw? Must be ****** now. Taylor clearly won the second fight. As for the 1st it could have gone anyway.
whether or not taylor won the seconds fight, which i admit he did he still should not be considered the true fighter of the year as is says in the article of the day. the main point here is that the article is garbage and i wanted to see what the opinions of the restof you were on that idea. the idea of hatton not deserving the award and if taylor who doesnt deserve his titles deserved it.
jermain taylor: first he beats some tomato can. then he eeks out a bull**** but close decision over b-hop. and then he wins the rematch that hardly proved that hes the better man.
ricky hatton: wins the IBF 140 title in a huge upset over a modern legend in kostya tszyu. then he unifies the IBF and WBA titles with a devastating 9th round KO over awkward and fellow upseter carlos maussa.
having said that, does anyone really think that taylor deserves to be the 2006 FOTY? i sure as hell dont.
jermain taylor, fighter of the year? hogwash, he lost the first fight against hop and everyone should know it by now and the second fight was a draw. how could anyone think that sloppy ass taylor should be awarded the prize for fighter of the year?
taylor is an hbo paper champ and he deserves none of the titles he has, let alone to be awarded fighter of the year honors.
yea u are a blockhead..becuase hopkins lost the first 8 rounds in the 1st fight idiot
