Lee should demand a rehydration clause of 10lb at 170lb max.
If Quillin/Haymon reject then Lee should sit this one out.
This stinks of the Mayweather/Marquez weight issue, no intentions of making weight & would rather win with an advantage than win fair & square.
Lee has a name now & a belt, he can afford to sit this one out..take the compensation for breach of contract & fight an opponent that weighs the same on the scales.Comment

It's because the weight cut is too big these days. Guys are fighting in weight divisions way too low. Back in the day a guy like Quillin would have been a light heavyweight. But because of special diets and the science of weight cutting they (usually) get down to a weight they have no business being at. That's why they rehydrate by as much as 20 pounds by fight night.I don't understand how we see this more and more in modern boxing. I don't ever remember this happening as much before with the old school fighters.
Seems like this generation doesn't understand the meaning of sacrifice and hunger. To let weight deter you from winning a championship is inexcusable.
Quillin not only let the fans down, he let himself down.
Personally I think the fighters should weigh in only a few hours before the fight - then the extreme weight cut guys would have no chance.Comment

That would be the fault of the fighter who is trying to get an unfair advantage by fighting in a division he no longer belongs in. No pity for him at all.
I agree with you and your solution of a 50% purse forfeit would be perfect. I don't think too many fighters would let that happen twice.I say tough luck. My sympathies are for the guy who IS fighting in his correct division, but ends up spotting his opponent 20 lbs like Gatti-Gamache........
Edit: a fair compromise would be if they stay with day-before weigh ins, then have an additional 6pm fight day weigh in and if you put on more than 10 pounds then you forfeit half your purse to the opponent
He's up there along with many others in Haymon's stable. But they have a ways to go to catch Ward who has basically wasted his career all on his own.Comment

This is great for Lee.
He has this fight tomorrow with Quillin where he can't lose his title
More importantly he has a guaranteed super fight back in Ireland Vs Saunders in the summer that will make him millions.
If Quillin had made weight and beaten Lee, Then Quillin would take Lee's belt an Quillin would fight Saunders,
Lee would have missed out on his big home fight and millions of euro.Comment

imagine losing 125 grand because you couldn't cut that last pound. that's gotta hurt. as big of a joke as Peter Quillin has become, when placed next to Leo Santa Cruz he looks like a likable fighter. still rooting for Lee.Comment

No - if Lee wins he retains his belt, if Quillin wins the belt becomes vacant. This is great for Lee.
