Quillin not only let the fans down, he let himself down.
With more and more titles being invented every day they don't care because they're "the A side" and they can do whatever they want without consequence. They'll just wait until they get handed another title shot.

Monetary weight penalties and losing titles aren't a deterrent anymore. Hit them where it hurts. Put their record at risk. Fighters that don't make weight should start losing points on the scorecards. 1 point for every half pound over. Now that's a penalty.

I say tough luck. My sympathies are for the guy who IS fighting in his correct division, but ends up spotting his opponent 20 lbs like Gatti-Gamache........

Edit: a fair compromise would be if they stay with day-before weigh ins, then have an additional 6pm fight day weigh in and if you put on more than 10 pounds then you forfeit half your purse to the opponent

Lee should be compensated and quillin either needs to go to 168 or stay active so he can make the weight. he's been gone for a while so i understand but compensate Lee

Serves you right, you punk. The only way this could be better is if Quillin gets flattened.

            He blames himself

Who the fuck else could he blame for it? What a bell end.

Well worth going to California to train with that quack though. Kettlebells tied to a bamboo barbell is the way to go

Who the hell else qualifies? It's either Quillin or Santa Cruz, and Quillin is still in the lead. No one else is in the running.

Well when he vacated his title vs Korobov, he blamed his pregnant wife and dying uncle.

Of course he'll always thank Haymon, the guy who paid him not to take the fight and kept him out of the ring for a year.

Maybe Quillen should've thrown that last piece of chocolate in the crowd, instead of eating it, at the open workout, in the Barclays.

Re-hydration clauses should be mandatory by the commissions, but I think the promoters will resist because it's one more hurdle that could cancel a fight. That and some young marquee fighters (Chavez Jr), take advantage of the current system to give them a size advantage during the fight, making it easier to promote them as stars.

Instead maybe they should do the opposite and and have a series of weight checks prior to the 24hr one. WBC already does a couple, but maybe a wt check every 5 days starting at 30 out. The initial 30 day could be something like 10% above the limit and the step down to 0% at the 24hr check.
