I agree. Iv'e stated plenty of times that I would like the Cotto vs GGG fight. But if he has a voluntary defense and wants to use it just like every other champion before him I don't see the problem with that.

No, if money trumps everything and we accept this premise then what is actually put on tv doesn't matter but we know that is not the case and here is where the conflict stems from. If Cotto just wants to get paid he can do this easily without taking the considerable risk of defending the lineal MW championship against GGG by dissolving his status voluntarily.

Cotto is a natural southpaw. On a side note he did the same thing on Sportsnation on ESPN and he did it kind of half assed and got like 635 I think. Then Kellerman did it at like 700 something and Marselles (SP?) I thought for sure would do more and he couldn't beat Max. Cotto was there when they did this but didn't try it again. You could see this time he really gave it his all and it's crazy he hits harder than a guy as big as Marselles, that's a big dood.

Is that his clear and true intent? If he is granted that voluntary and takes it with the intent of defending his championship against the highest rated opponent then fine. The problem has been for about 10 months the state of the division has been in limbo because Cotto has not made his intent clear.

Against the best man the title could possibly be defended against? Will that happen? Does he intend for it to happen? No one knows.

No, no one would care because the MW championship would not be an issue.

The issue is where this leave the MW championship status if it is not going to be defended against the best challengers and there is no clear indication that will happen.
