This week, Arum met with developers who will be in charge of constructing a stadium (with a capacity of 38,000 for Pacquiao’s next assignment) in Las Vegas on Spring Mountain Road and Las Vegas Blvd. at the site of the long gone Frontier Hotel.

“It’s fine,” Arum said on Thursday. “We have the plans and everything is ready to go.”

This structure will harken back to the makeshift arenas that staged fights in this city back in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Don’t expect any luxury suites or anything of that sort. This won’t be Cowboys Stadium.

There will be no amenities in the stadium but it’s a big, big area. There will be concession stands and so forth and Porta-Potties and everything but the stadium itself will be like the stadiums that we had- and this is the same guy that built those stadiums in Caesars Palace, in the Mirage - and it doesn’t have any amenities inside but plenty of amenities around it,” said Arum. “There will be room for a big area for fans and there’s a 2,400 [car] parking garage and so I’m very confident it will be perfect. And then we get by June and if there’s a big fight in November, then we can get a bubble over it to enclose it.”
You really think the best thing for a fight of this magnitude is a 25 year old business model, one based on a bleacher seat-based temporary outdoor stadiums where 'high rollers' and even regular fans are expected to pay premium dollars to pizz in a Port-Potty and have to go outside the stadium to get a t-shirt?

If MGM sells out all of their closed circuit viewing they will start to sell viewing rights elsewhere.

        The porta-potty is original ....

Can you imagine 38.000 users and what that's going to smell like

And that's why this fight needed a bigger venue. This should have been made into a major event. Instead its lacking. Its lacking a quality undercard. Its lacking the promotion and hype that a fight like this deserves. I swear that I can recall Oscar/Floyd receiving more press/hype/promotion than this bout.

First we hearing though so hopefully the realize its a mistake
It seems like that at at first glance, but maybe there's another side to it. This is hands down, the biggest fight in decades. Many tens of thousands of people are planning to go to Vegas for the event. The place is going to be a zoo. If every non-MGM property gets to air the fight, The Vegas strip itself might get overcrowded to the point of being dangerous to the public. This exclusivity announcement will at least discourage some people to stay home and watch the fight on PPV. Thus relieving Vegas of ridiculous crowds of people and possible crime and disorder. Personally, I'll take watching the fight at a friend's house while cooking out and getting my drink on, to pushing and shoving among hordes of strangers any day.

Not sure why people are complaining - this isn't a big deal... I think PPV was blocked from non-MGM casinos for Floyd's last few PPVs as well (I know this was the case for the Canelo fight). So instead of buying PPV at the hotel you'll have to either walk to one of the MGM-owned casinos and buy a closed circuit ticket or find a bar off the Strip showing the fight and pay the cover to watch there. Don't see why this is a big deal - the atmosphere for closed circuit events and even packed bars is generally better than even the fight itself...

It is already a major event, and nice as an idea as it may be to let everyone bring the wife and kids (because just what we need is more classy folks bringing their kids to Vegas) the event holders are trying to maximize their revenue. Their target market is people who are going to go bet 50 grand a hand on blackjack after the fight, and this fight is going to bring them all out. Do you think they want to risk those people leaving that vacant lot by the airport and walking into some other casino? Hell no, they want to keep all those people inside their casino!

Yes it is a huge event and why they think it isnt is beyond me. We are still in March. Just wait till mid-April.

Never understood why people take their kids to Vegas. I know they are trying to market to families but it isnt a family place. I for one plan on being drunk, among other things, the whole time.

We are keeping room and flight till possibly one week before, if we decide not to go but right now all systems are go. Just hope they sell tix soon. Excitement reached a new level today
