Since jermaine taylor is still in the rankings, that means that the rankings haven't been updated recently for the mw division.Comment

so.....Heiland is ranked #1 by the WBC. I don't think you can criticize Cotto on those grounds. Soliman may be better than Heiland but he is not ranked by the WBC and besides neither Heiland nor Soliman bring much to the table financially. The truth of the matter is that none of the current possible opponents really justify Cotto not having fought Golovkin right now. Canelo was justifiable, nothing else is.
Its justifiable for cotto to defend his mw title vs canelo
but not justifiable for cotto to defend vs WBC ranked #1 heiland?
o... k...
other than that everything else in your post I agree.Comment

I know you were talking about 'independent' rankings but Cotto is not defending an independent rankings title but the WBC title. In that top 10 I suppose Geale is probably the best fighter who is also independently ranked. I think Geale would actually be the best option.Comment

The point is, and you agree here, is that one year after winning the title Cotto should have fought GGG. Its his own fault that he didn't make a defense against a Heiland caliber opponent earlier.Comment

Canelo is ranked #1 at 154 and a former 154 WBC champion. Cotto-Canelo is also a very big fight. Cotto is entitled to a voluntary so in one sense fighting Heiland is perfectly fine but in another it is not a fight many really want to see and therefore not a fight that will generated big money. Therefore what is the point of it?Comment

Dude. A Canelo fight would be a monumental moneyspinner. I personally wouldn't like it, as I think he should stop ducking GGG, but I could somewhat understand it from a financial and prestigerous standpoint.Comment
