Apparently HBO won't host Cotto's next fight unless Canelo is guaranteed next.

Gold standard would be finding any legal way possible to make GGG v ward, canelo or Cotto.
Yea with GGG it's like "hey no one wants to fight him ... But watch him ko this guy anyway" and HBO is cool with that other guys don't get the same pass.

I suspect HBO would LOVE for Cotto to sell his June fight to another network, and then let HBO make Cotto-Canelo in the fall. Dont forget, HBO has an exclusive contract with Canelo so Cotto doesnt get the Canelo fight unless its on HBO (i.e. distributed by HBO PPV)......
        Exactly.

Nobody cares about Cotto-TBA, and that includes HBO.

HBO has a deal with Canelo, not Cotto.

Cotto's primary value to HBO is as an opponent for Canelo.

Canelo has a long term exclusive contract with HBO. So does GGG. HBO is likely more receptive to "stay-busy" fights with guys they have under contract, then they would be from freelancers like Cotto who have no exclusive contract, and would be free to take his next fight elsewhere.

as for Ward, I think thats simply economics. He is likely wanting 2 or 3 million bucks to fight a dummy, and HBO is saying "no thanks"

Canelo has a new HBO deal.

            Cotto doesn't.

You seem to be missing that point.

I can guarantee you that Canelo/Kirkland will generate more viewership and $ than Cotto/Bundrage.
Solid numbers... So sparring sessions are okay if they would do good numbers? Cotto vs K9 would do better numbers than GGG is getting, Cotto after getting slaughtered by Manny got the best rating of the year on HBO facing Foreman. He has no problems getting numbers either and HBO even has no problems putting that fight up if they get Cotto/Canelo anyway. Gold standard my ass, they'll put on sparring sessions if they get money for it at some point. They're no different than Showtime and Haymon lol.

Looks like Cotto has painted himself into a corner, but Roc Nation is the one thats going to take the hit. Cotto has a contract with them and he is going to get paid either way.

Good for HBO and LOL @ everyone complaining about HBO approving GGG fights but putting demands on Cottos next opponent.

It's also because Canelo and Golovkin are actually ... busy.
