Apparently HBO won't host Cotto's next fight unless Canelo is guaranteed next.

Canelo HAD to fight on May 2nd in Vegas. Instead, he settled for May 9th in Houston and all because he was afraid to fight June in NY. Canelo openly said he would move the date of the Manny fight, his proposal was to face Cotto on PPV the very next week after a $100 PPV? Cotto knew how ****** that would be and said June 6th... Here we are 2.5 months from June and it's Canelo with the opponent not Cotto. It was Canelo who left negotiations not Cotto, just stop.
Ridiculous ... The replay of Mayweather PAC alone would really hurt those numbers and lets say if by some chance Manny beat Floyd what would HBO do? Not show the replay? Or show it and have it compete against their own ppv ... Lol that's just bad business. Canelo is still green..

gotta agree with BOA on this. Canelo only wants to fight Cotto outside of NY because he wants to be the "star". That's why he wouldn't do June.

Silly to because a MW title win in MSG would bring back a lot of people who lost interest after Canelo's disgraceful performance with Floyd.

Is he? Because it seems he has a fight coming up that will be shown alongside the replay of the biggest fight in the history of the sport.

Meanwhile Cotto is fighting uhmmmm, who? when? on what network?

              Exactly

                  That's cute.

May 9th will almost certainly have the biggest HBO boxing audience all year.

Speaking of the previous negotiations, though, you don't even know if Cotto can get the same deal as last time.

HBO is applying the pressure to Cotto, not Canelo.

Let me ask you this Cotto butt muncher. If you're HBO, would you give Cotto a date in june against a subpar opponent that they might lose money on if he wasn't guaranteeing you a chance to recoup losses and/or make money on his next fight against Canelo?

It'll be like Verizon giving you a brand new Iphone at the discounted price with no contract and giving you the option to jump to AT&T once you get the phone. They're willing to lose money on the sale of the phone just so they can lock you into a 2yr agreement and make their money on the back end. If you don't want a contract then you must pay full price for the phone.

Like anything else its just business and I wont blame HBO for turning down Cotto's june date without some sort of guarantee.
