Comments Thread For: Gennady Golovkin Views Chavez Jr. Challenge as "a Joke"

I think his next fight against Fonfara is at 173 pounds again, just like the Vera fight ended up being. Seems like he has a tough time making 168 now, but that could just be laziness. You let posters influence your opinions of fighters? That video is likely from 2011. Chavez has since been known to blow up over 200 lbs between fights. He's a big man@ 6'1", who has to train his ass off to make MW, and now he's moving up to SMW. They may have looked similar in size in the video, but Chavez is clearly the larger of the two now.Comment

And there it is....Did you just use the word logic as if it is ever involved in your opinions? Chavez was backing up already before punches where even thrown....keep telling yourself he's a small MW, he needs the excuse if he's gonna keep going back on his word to fight at 168
If you can't see that GGG is the bigger man in that ring get your eyes checked
I never said GGG is a small MW. You said he is bigger than Chavez because ypu have an ex to grind against GGG fanboys. You can be critical of them without getting irrational.
In no planet is GGG a bigger weight class than Chavez. GGG is also not a small MW. both can be trueComment

GGG is a NATURAL middleweight. He has no trouble making weight as when training he naturally melts off the extra fat and water weight he carries around normally. He does not need any special heavy training methods to make weight. For him to move up would require him to either train much less strenuously so he drops less weight or to do extensive weight training to build up more muscle mass which may not be helpful as it would be much more difficult to drop such weight afterwards to return to 160.And there it is....

The lie about Golovkin being a big middleweight continues to be expressed by those who don't like him as a threat to everyone from about 5'7" to 6' 2". Or think he should only fight the very biggest in size guys who might throw something lucky that will stick. Dream on. If he gets beat it will be an unfriendly referee and some suspect judging with a lot of running mixed in....
Chavez 6' 1" reach 73" Golovkin 5' 10 1/2" reach 70"
Chavez is bigger. @ 1/2" taller with a 3" reach advantage. There is no argument there. Some guys are afraid he'll stick around at MW because it looks like he can make jr middleweight... he is closer in size to Mayweather then to Ward and Chavez. No question about that.
Golovkin is a small to average size middleweight. Willie Monroe Jr will have a significant reach advantage against him and is the same height.
Maybe one of these slick guys can beat him. But he can hurt them into the 12th, so a tough task.Comment

My mistake, Chavez's previous fight was technically @ SMW, though he was well over the limit. Fonfara is a LHW. The fight is reported to take place @ a 172lb catch-weight. Chavez, Jr must not be confident that he can beat Fonfara if he is at his full LHW limit. So he's lazy and scared!

If it's such a joke GGG, then why not be the Riddler and come up with the punchline? Geez... lotta moolah to be made for fighting a 'joke', Jr is rugged if nothing else. And he can punch too. So, no GGG, you don't need to try to fool anyone. You want a serious challenge... take this fight. The fans want it, and if you're so bad then prove it. Or shut up and fight marginal challengers at 160 all your life. GGG is good, no doubt, but wow if that isn't a duck... what is?Comment
