HBO is a subscription service with reportedly 32 million homes subscribed.

Spike TV is basic cable, paid for by being included with basic packages from TV providers. The estimated coverage is 97 million homes for Spike TV.

With those numbers in mind, Spike TV has triple the households and still got less viewers than HBO.

That's my point. Kovalev-Pascal is one of the premier matchups in the sport. It is one of the best fights that will be made all year. It did 1.1M. Will Berto-Lopez make the top 100 matchups? No. It still did good numbers.

The best fights, like Kovalev-Pascal, need to be available to 100M homes, not 30M. Boxing died on HBO and SHO. Boxing needs to rid itself of the subscription service curse.

What in Haymon's history suggests he would ever put on a fight this quality on Network TV? His history is protecting his fighters by putting on mismatches. And his Friday card got less ratings then a Rerun of Cops that aired before it. Beaten by Cops even though you are spending infinitely more money to put on that show then it costs to purchase the license fee to re-air Cops. Hardcore boxing fans are going to watch it no matter what channel it's on. The problem is the casual fans are not tuning in and simply putting it on a more accessible channel is not driving the ratings high enough. Like someone said it this is turning into a expensive infomercial. I don't see advertisers being wowed by these numbers.

If I scrolled the whole history of all ur post I prolly won't find one that expresses any frustration towards Arum for constantly attempting to pit all 4 fighters in his stable against each other over and over and over again . Spike is one of those channels that people get in their package but rarely if ever watch. I have TLC in my cable package because I cannot dump it without dumping a couple of channels that I DO watch as well, but NEVER watch a damn thing on it and they probably have more subscribers than Spike does. Spike is a channel people pick because they have extra slots to fill in their package and don't want to get the Oprah network or Home and Garden. Just because a channel goes into X number of homes, does not mean those people actually watch it.

HBO and Showtime are premium stations and people knowingly add them to their subscription and pay extra for them. So they WILL be watched by those who spend money to have them.
