It was because he went down on the first punch after getting knocked down.

I mean I was there in person last night, and in all honestly you could tell that if he continued it would've been like Khan vs Garcia. He would've gotten up to get knocked back down again. Khan was winning up until he got knocked down too.

Of course Lopez was game to keep going, but It would've delayed the inevitable in my opinion.

If it makes anybody feel better, a bunch of people started throwing their beers at the ref afterwards. Bet they didn't show that on TV. Lol

This Lopez guy just doesn't have the staying power in most of his fights. You can't have a gameplan of stopping a guy like Berto early. He's a 12-round, resilient fighter. I had high hopes with Lopez even after some loses. Lopez should change trainer and conditioning coach.

When a fighter goes through the wars like Lopez has been through - Ortiz, Maidana, Canelo - because of the accumulated punishment they've taken in their career, an experienced ref will sometimes choose to stop a fight if that fighter gets in trouble. Basically that helps reduce chance of brain damage showing up in later life.

Nobody is forcing you to watch it. If you think it's terrible stop watching instead of complaining like a bit*ch every week.

Just wait for Lee- Quillin. When the fight was announced my first thought was that Haymon had bought Quillin his title back by paying Saunders to step aside. Now if Lee loses in some controversial manner like an early stoppage or a poor decision, I will be 100% certain of it. Haymon is a cancer on the sport of boxing.

The stoppage stunk. He should have at least been given a count. Yea and as for "south of the border peeps"... I wonder what your reaction would have been if Berto had been dropped and stopped early.

He did, more importantly a second after the referee got on top him and he knew what was happening he got right back and was clearly there and consequently started complaining. Many a great fights would have never happened if stoppages like that were the norm.

Horrible stoppage. Have rarely seen a fighter with a profile like Lopez not even given a damn count. Good fights would never happen if they get stopped like that. One of the worst stoppages I've witnessed in a long time. How about giving the fighter a count and seeing how he responds you moronic idiot. It wasn't like it was a devastating knockdown. Btw Berto stinks. He's a juiced up has been who tries to look like a fighter but he's not that good. Anyone relevant will wipe the floor with him.
