You just don't get it do you? I don't hate Cotto. Cotto is nothing to me but a coward hoarding a title he is afraid to defend. Once he vacates it, I don't care who he fights. He can fight the winner of May-Pac for all I care. He can fight his own shadow which is actually more likely if Roc Nation actually think they can find a fight that will make them a profit on their ridiculous contract. Cotto may never see the inside of a ring again, just like Ward! They will be bench sitters, poster boys for Roc Nation Boxing. Never actually fighting anyone, just bragging about the incredible contracts they have. But which they have never made a cent from because they have never fought since signing them.

What difference does a belt make? GGG is already considered the top guy at 60, and Cotto is a jr middleweight. The outcry from the GGG fanbase is simply wanting to see Gennady beat up an overmatched, past his prime, smaller fighter. Everything GGG needs to legitimize the hype is a division north. ****'n around, fighting ESPN fighters, and calling out B level fighters that happend to be the class of a pathetic division isn't doing him any favors. I could care less about shiny objects and "lineal" this and that.

A fan of the FIGHT, wants to see COMPETIVE fights and could care less about belts and ceremonies. The best part of Cotto beating Sergio, is that punch to his head...The belt to me, means nothing.

Belts are shiny things designed to bring about petty emotions in casual fans. I'd rather watch Cotto Vs Canelo for pure props than to see Cotto VS Baldomir for the "shiny belt..."

Casual fans are crucial in making someone a star. Do you think Cotto became a star by just having a hardcore fanbase? Yep as a hardcore fan I'd rather see competitive fights but Golovkin isn't a big enough name yet to get the biggest fights.

Smashing Cotto to bits on PPV elevates him into supestardom and then we an get better fights involving him.

It's all moot though because I don't see Cotto holding onto the title past this year. He'll vacate after this next defence.

Cotto V GGG is NOT a competitive fight in your eyes. So now, WHY are you so bent on shiny belts as opposed to wanting to see your idol GGG, actually fight someone HIS size? Maybe stop masquerading as a MW an fight Ward?

The win over Oscar De La Hoya pushed him to the next level. It did the same for Floyd Mayweather.

Cotto isn't as big a name or as good as Oscar but it would certainly elevate GGG to the next level in terms of name value. How is that not obvious?
