GGG vs Heiland

Aside from Dawson, do you know how lucky Ward was to have been involved in a tournament? He was pretty much guaranteed to fight the best in the world. Yes, he wasn't the favorite going in, but he had the opportunity to showcase his talent. You know how many more fighters would have a better resume if they had the chance to participate in a tournament that put you in with the best in the division? I'm obviously not knocking Ward, but he wouldn't the fighter he is today if there was no Super 6.
Edit: goddammit. cheeseburger beat me to it.Comment

Lara would be my first choice for this date, but the Haymon/HBO relationship likely kills it. Hopkins at 175-170 would still be a more intriguing fight for Golovkin than any of the options that are on the table. Hell even Korobov would be better than Johnson or Heiland. I like Monroe, but he needs atleast 1-2 more fights.Comment

Golovkin is already 33 years old and has the backing of HBO; the fact that he's still wallowing in nothing fights in a thin division, with no one critiquing him, is a disservice to the sport.
Say what you want about Ward, he and his handlers took their chance when he was all of 26 years old. Hope that Golovkin steps up at some point.Comment

You don't think GGG's team would've taken that same opportunity as well? Any reasonable team would've done the same thing regarding entering that tournament. And although Golovkin is the age he is, if he had a competent promoter working for him his entire career, who knows where he would be at right now. Universum did a real disservice to his career for quite a few years.Golovkin is already 33 years old and has the backing of HBO; the fact that he's still wallowing in nothing fights in a thin division, with no one critiquing him, is a disservice to the sport.

"Ward's resume doesn't count. It was from a tournament! It would only count if he fought them outside of the tournament!"

Wait, what?
First of all Ward had nothing to lose, since he wasn't the favorite to win that tourney. As has been pointed out, his resume is rather thin outside of it. At least GGG is fighting Oosthwhatshisface type opponents 4 times a year instead of once every 2. Not GGG's fault that his division is a bit weak atm, that most of the top guys in it aren't in a hurry to fight him, or that he's a bit small for SMW.Say what you want about Ward, he and his handlers took their chance when he was all of 26 years old. As far as GGG turning pro at a late age, that's rather common outside the US. Rigondeaux, Lomachenko, Gamboa, etc.Comment
