Some sources had the rematch at 147, some at a catchweight tsk tsk

Canelo screwed up by cashing in early and agreeing to the catchweight. The fight was too one-sided for anyone to be interested in a rematch. As he continues to improve and Floyd gets older, obviously a fight later this year at 154 would be more competitive. Too bad no one wants to see it.Comment

if they did, ODH was the one who would have set the weight so I'm not sure your point. Some sources had the rematch at 147, some at a catchweight tsk tsk

Your position seems a little silly/indecisive.Yeah, I'll never get why Cotto had Martinez fight at 159 which really is crazy. If all these guys agree to a certain weight, I don't have much problem with that.....the problem I have is when they complain afterward after agreeing to a catch weight or prior to that or after that, insisting on a catch weight.....but Floyd takes the take with his big speech about how he is not that kind of guy who asks for catch weights and then does just that.
You say that you have no problem with catchweights, just the complaining afterwards..... which is a bit silly.
How could there be no complaining afterwards, when you have unnecessarily provided a justifiable excuse to one/both participants. NOTE: the keywords are "unnecessary" and "justifiable".
I have a much better position.....
Completely abolish catchweights because they are simply unnecessary.
* we no longer have the original 8 divisions, there are 17 divisions now, surely a fighter can find one that he is comfortable with
* a title fight at catchweight is fkn criminal, and should never happen, EVER
* catchweights were originally used to justify exhibition matches, nothing more, but the standards have dropped, because of public acceptance..... just like you are displaying
Example:
Pacquiao/Cotto = unnecessary
Pacquiao/Hoya = absurd (exhibition match, previously 4 divisions apart)
Pacquiao/Margarito = absurd (neither were JMW, fighting for vacant title, at catchweight)
Mayweather/Canelo = unnecessary
Hard luck Mayweather and Pacquiao for demeaning your own achievments.
Fakk catchweights.
The only two reasons why any fighter would need a catchweight are.....
* you are not good enough to compete against your opponent without reducing his effectiveness
or.....
* you are attempting to gain an unfair advantage
Either one is unacceptable.
Fakk catchweights.Comment

You have to do your homework, before you make statements of untruths, rookie. How do you figure Cotto was weight-drained when he fought Pacquiao? Cotto started fighting at WW in 2006, when he moved up to beat Quintana for the vacant WBA WW title. He fought Pac in 2009 @ WW, and didn't move up to SWW until the next year.

Cotto's natural weight @ the time of the Pacquiao fight was 147, and Pac's camp had him sign to fight @ 145. That's not a significant weight-drain scenario.
I agree on the Alvarez vs Mayweather situation, seeing as Canelo was said to walk around @ nearly 170 and had to make 152 for Little Boy Floyd.Last edited by SUBZER0ED; 03-10-2015, 05:10 PM.Comment

I think that a lot of you guys are missing the point.
If YOU accept catchweights, then YOU accept the excuses that WILL come along with them.
Give me one good reason/example, as to why a catchweight was necessary in a meaningful fight..... just one example.....
I bet you cant.
If the catchweight was justified/justifiable, then the fight was not meaningful..... find me one example to the contrary..... just one.Comment

IF Mayweather had not requested that UNNECESSARY catchweight.....The fight was on even terms DUMMY! Mayweather is the naturally smaller man. Meeting a catchweight is what leveled the playing field. Mayweather has never campaigned as a fulltime Jr Middlweight. He just fights the best in that division then goes back down to 147...
Canelo got his ass whooped because he's not as dynamic as Mayweather, nor is he a better boxer. Weight had nothing to do with it, BUM!
(you do know that Floyd would have beaten Canelo anyway, right?)
.....then you would not have to defend him for demeaning his own achievement.
Can you really not see my point ?Comment

Fkn rubbish, Hoya had "no legs"..... and he was "hesitant"..... because he was "shot".....
get real
You attempted to demean Mayweathers victory over Canelo, even though the weight did not affect the outcome of that fight...... but you are willing to endorse the "achievement" of Pacquiao, when Hoya.....
a) had not fought at welter in nearly 10 years
b) was clearly past his prime
c) Roach said that Hoya was " no legs "..... " hesitant "..... " shot ".....
We get it, you just LUVVVV you some Manny lolComment

Listen idiot alt, Pac gets credit for taking a huge risk upfront. As I said, look at the writers predictions beforehand, Dlh was supposed to slaughter the midget. And ****** fcuk, Oscar was dropping to 147 of his own volition. Get lostFkn rubbish, Hoya had "no legs"..... and he was "hesitant"..... because he was "shot".....
